Iron Cross EK (which) Bar/Spange 1870/71 peculiar form

Recommended Posts

Hello gentleman,

this photo was taken between 1873 and 1878 in Berlin. It seems to show a NCO of a Garde unit. I noticed the Iron Cross on the bar which I haven´t seen worn this way before. Was it common to display it this way and would it be the EKII?

Thank you!

Hi Grey,

not the common way, maybe he wanted to show, that

he got an Eisernes Kreuz and not a Militärehrenzeichen 2nd class.

Regards

Andreas

What a great Saxon bar!

1) Saxon Civil Merit w/swords

2) EK2 w/EK device

4) Franco-Prussian War

What is #3?  It appears to be too yellow to be the Saxon Commemorative Cross for Medical Service, but maybe it is?  Can we see the reverse of the bar?

Hi Gents,

I think ribbon 3 is for the Erinnerungskreuz for 1866 from Sachsen.

Kind regards

Andreas

Hello;

Certainly the ribbon matches and it is a good fit for the time period and ribbon bar style.  If that is the medal for this bar, that should narrow down this gentleman's Saxon unit.  (see Order of Battle for 1866 and 1870-71).

The miniature on the ribbon denotes the EK1. Ribbon only for EK2.

Sorry, this is not right, see post 1

Kind regards

Andreas

You can find those IC on the bar also in early years of WW1. It is not a rare photo.
