Tinnies 3 Tinnies
Nick replied to Alexey Smirnov's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Organisational Membership Badges & Tinnies
I'll take your word on the flash, the photo's just made the second and third badge (pin only) look to be made of modern construction. -
Tinnies 3 Tinnies
Nick replied to Alexey Smirnov's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Organisational Membership Badges & Tinnies
Have a look at this thread for the first tinnie: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5051&st=980 The construction of the second badge looks postwar to me. The last one is certainly for Danzig and again the pin itself looks modern ?? -
I think we have done the Dr Hansen topic to death. I am not interested in the minutia of the why, when and where falls of Dr Hansen and his fall from WAF grace. Stogieman has explained the reasoning behind his dismissal from GMIC and that is the end of story. As for his dissertation, this was linked to GMIC from MCF back in February 2006 (the link is now dead at the MCF end) so there was no attempt to hide any facts here and I was happy that his findings were made available on GMIC. I do feel that things are starting to go round and round in circles and we need to draw a line under the Rounder debate with the fact that at least we all agree that it is Fake so lets move on to something new.

No doubt an original plate, but the provenance is a little too weak for me. There is of course a likelihood it was worn at Waterloo, but much like today the Victorian era had more than its fair share of forgers and embellishers who liked to dress up a piece to make it more desirable.

Serbia F 117 A - Fragment of the tail-fin
Nick replied to Christian Zulus's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
We are an international forum and we must remember that we are here to discuss militaria and military history without getting tied down with the baggage of personal beliefs, morals, politics and national loyalties. I accept that at times this can be hard to accomplish and passions can run high especially with members who have served in their own countries military as well as various conflicts around the world since WW2. I respect that many members are proud of their service and have patriotic feelings of loyalty to their own country and beliefs. But your own individual national pride may not be shared by other members and we must be respectful towards those members by not carrying and flying our flags blatantly in their faces. I can assure members that such humanitarian beliefs will not lead to banishment on GMIC. I run this forum to a set of guidelines which are based on common sense, decency and are founded on the principles of western democracy and British Law. I like most (but I accept, not all) of you have a patriotic loyalty to my country of birth, but I am hopefully educated enough to recognise some of the dangers of nationalism and when posting on GMIC view things objectively like all military historians should. I would ask you all to do the same and we will hopefully continue to have some enlightening and interesting discussions in the future. -
Serbia F 117 A - Fragment of the tail-fin
Nick replied to Christian Zulus's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
Doc I though long and hard about this posting. I agree Mr Zulus has been crass and offensive with his remarks and he has received an official warning with regards his conduct. I thought I had deleted the offensive remarks but one escaped. It aslo has not escaped my notice what the motivation for the topic was and in all probability the sole purpose was to cause offence. I decided to leave the topic in question because I felt the topic itself was of value and interest. If the topic does not get back on coursec or is further clouded by political motivation I will simply delete it. -

Nick replied to Christian Zulus's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
After some thought I have decided to let this post remain, but I have removed some of the inappropriate and inflammatory remarks/smilies which I am sure were intended to make a political point and no doubt will have caused offence to some of our US members. It is an interesting topic and one that merits discussion but for it to continue please stick to facts not anti american rhetoric. -
Jaybo Is it the criteria for the awards you are looking for ? Nick

Dietrich You may have a point there I am in the dark about RKs I may well have confused the two issues as being one. I am aware of the die flaw topic maybe we should expand this topic to include that as well. I will change the topic title to reflect that. It seems that you are right about the rounder thread I think the posts reflect an agreement on that issue.

This item has caused more controversy than any other item on military forums. It has been the catalyst for more arguments, banishments , alleged fraudulent sales, and the manifestation of hatred between Third Reich collectors than any other single item in recent years. I have had no choice but to lock two threads on the subject because of the emotions it has raised. I will be honest I have followed the debate from afare only getting dragged in when conflict arises. Is it time to call enough is enough and bury the topic for evermore ? Or can we start with a clean slate, keep personal agendas out of it and analyse the facts! Human nature probably indicate that it is not possible, but hopefully I can be proved wrong. Can we achieve the impossible and objectively reach some kind of conclusion, maybe not beyond reasonable doubt, but perhaps more on the balance of probabilities ? However there will be clear guidelines to follow. Therefore before posting in this thread all members must acknowledge the following guidelines. Any breach of these rules will lead to posts being immediately removed and a warning given. Any further breach will lead to suspension of membership. Its as simple as that, if you can?t trust yourself to follow the rules, steer clear is the only advice I will give. The Rules: All normal forum rules apply PLUS: Any implied abusiveness, threatening remarks or patronising comments, no matter how veiled against any other individual (whether a member of this forum of not) will not be tolerated. No third party reference to any individual ownership, or sale of said items will be tolerated, only reference to personal ownership will be allowed. A respect for other members opinions is a prerequisite for posting. A healthy, intelligent debate without resorting to abusiveness or threats (whether implied or believed) is the objective of this topic. We can all agree to disagree with some opinions but underhand abusive tactics will not be tolerated. This is not a blame game. It is not a question of blame or an attempt to discredit other members theories, all theories will be open to examination. Group persecution of a particular member with the objective of discrediting them will not be tolerated, if this becomes apparent or is suspected the topic will be closed. And the last rule is if I don?t like the tone of a post it will be removed, no further explanation will be given.
