    1. Freikorps no doubt but who and where? could you post a larger scan of this part of the first photo:
    2. Mei'm Herzele addressed to a Liesel Hess "to my little heart" The interesting and odd thing is, that it is written in south German slang "Schw?bisch" or Swabian. He himself, or just his girl was from W?rttemberg or Baden.
    3. ... exactly, SB 5 Flammenwerfer personnel wore their Totenkopf at the same level on the sleeve as the other SB 5 Grenadiers wore their crown (Rohr) badge. Uniformity. Makes sense and explains the difference in wear compared to GRP Flammenwerfer personnel
    4. One of the best threads in a while, thanks everyone! In: Aufbau und Verwendung der deutschen Sturmbataillone im Weltkrieg; by Hellmuth Gruss (1939) Gruss writes that the Grenadiers of SB 5 were authorized to wear a crown patch on the left lower arm. Does anyone have pictures of it in wear?
    5. Great shot - what number is on the strap?
    6. Zimmermann has a very clear shoulder strap - perhaps a large scan of the strap would help.
    7. found this entry for 1906 Klumpp, Major z. D. und Bezirkskommandeur in Oberndorf.
    8. Very interesting! What device is on the shoulder straps? Who is Kommerzienrat Klumpp? Great find Christophe
    9. Robert, can you make out any numbers on the shoulder straps?
    11. Like Harrier and Danny70 already stated, it is a modern fake. Sorry
    12. Well, I went ahead and did it. I used existing holes and put the crown and pips on the old shadows - No new holes were added. (I used larger pips - since the ones that were on the board did not fully cover the old imprints) http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_05_2009/post-1062-1243057334.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_05_2009/post-1062-1243057831.jpg
    13. Thanks guys, it appears to be an altered board. I lifted the cypher and noticed that there is an imprint of the crown underneath. It looks like the crown was moved up and the FR cypher added. Also the pips were moved apart. Here is the question: Since it has been clearly altered recently, should I restore it back to it's original configuration? Leibgrenadier-Regiment Nr.109
    14. Document on the right is signed by: Generalmajor Friedrich Hofmann
    15. Any ideas regarding the unusual underlay piping? Silver Tresse http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_05_2009/post-1062-1242944299.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_05_2009/post-1062-1242944338.jpg
    16. Sorry, my Officer list for this Regiment starts in 1859
    17. David, could you narrow it down - we got 100 years of entries
    18. Have a look at the Parade of the Kavallerie vets in 1937 - lots of pre 1910 uniforms are worn with their old rank and unit destination. I believe that a lot of the oddities we see are from that era http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1M4V-y7cIc
    19. I have 1915 pattern Pionier Leutnant boards with blue straps
