    7. The Fechterabzeichen was instituted in Prussia in 1889 (Bavaria 1890). The award was bestowed by the commander of a cavalry regiment for proficiency in fighting with a lance from horseback. A maximum of twelve per Squadron could be given out in a year. The award had several classes. The Fechterabzeichen was worn on the right sleeve in form of one or more chevrons. Hardy
