    1. Hello Bob; This is a great oral history of your family. You should write it all down for your descendants (Ok, you just did when you posted this on the forum, but you want something printed out and kept with the cross.) I look forward to seeing the photos of the medal.
    2. Hello Bob; While I can't speak for the Chairman and the Moderators; Welcome to the GMIC forum! I don't know what rules you are afraid of breaking. I would say that I would not concern yourself with that too much right now. If you say anything too out of line, you would be gently informed by the Moderators. Having said that however, the first and greatest rule is always to conduct yourself in a polite and courteous manner on the forum. Hence the first name in the forum's title; "Gentleman's" referring to the manner of behavior, and not, as a misguided misogynist might think, to be exclusive of women. Now then....I can assure you that many on this forum would love to discuss your Cross, but first, it would be very helpful if you could post some good photos of it. Front and back. Any other photos or documents you may have from your Grandfather would also be helpful. I think that will really facilitate the conversation. Hope to see more from you soon.
    3. VERY NICE. This is, of course, the authorization from the Ministry to purchase the Colonial badge, the so-called Elephant badge from the Sculptor Karl Möbius. Do I understand correctly? Is there an increase in the price? With someone writing in 27.50 M? I really like the document and with the recipient’s name at the bottom. Prima!
    4. Great bars Claudio. I had wondered if some of them could be identified. Were you there in person? I have not heard anything since October 20th and had hoped to at least see the realized prices on-line. Regards, Claudius
    5. I don't think it's a good one. For one thing, the edges on the arms have some missing areas where the band runs around. But these crosses are getting hard to distinguish without having them in hand.
    6. Ahh...Great. Yes, my Library of Congress source copy says he was at Kurume POW camp as prisoner #3352 Hometown: Geestemünde Outstanding group!
    7. Green indeed. YES. I do like them! The EK1 and wound badge documents are outstanding. The Colonial doc sometimes had a stamp certification as well, but no problem. I can't read the last name...otherwise I might have been able to tell you more about the gent. Let me know if your source for this group had any friends that might be looking for a new home. ;)
    8. BTW...what's the opening bid on this group?
    9. Acknowledged. Maybe you wouldn't be very scared at what we have.
    10. You should come around here during Halloween....scare the bejeebers out of you. :43:
    11. http://videoeta.com/movie/32615 (but imagine Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland in German tunics!)
    12. :jumping: But a corporal in a Train outfit earns a 1st class foreign award? Did he hold off an attack by German trainrobbers?
    13. Whoa! the reverse of the Order of Lenin in post #1 doesn't look at all like the last post. In post 1 it looked like silver-colored, pebbled pot metal. Nice looking documents to go with the medals.
    14. I would concur. The Albert the Bear is a pre-wwi award based on it's position behind the Hindenburg. And this gentleman was naughty by also mounting his Kyffhauferbund medal after getting his HK.
    15. Great bar. Well constructed. A great example of a EK2 on combatant ribbon and HK non-combatant AND Ludwig together. You mentioned that the OZL helped with the identification. Is that because it was a pre-war award? Any details about his pre-war and wartime service? Again great bar.
    16. I haven't seen anything lately. Has there been any follow-up on this? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1307750/Has-lost-treasure-Tsars-the-worlds-deepest-lake.html
    17. Yes please. Show the documents too.
    18. The Order of Lenin is a very nice reproduction. Too bad about the cigaratte burn in the ribbon, but should still be worth $5 to someone.
    19. "merely irritated"?? "needless agitation" ?? Oh, I hardly think so. Besides you will have to work much, MUCH harder to irritate as many members on this forum than I have. Can I get agreement on this to fukuoka? Right Chris? Right JapanX? Spasm for one will jump to the head of the line. Now, I understand you have a paid subscription to this kind information, but how amazing is it that Chris brought up the very badge you were going to discuss in your very next issue. I don't know how many subscribers you currently have. But just imagine how you give some basic facts about this badge and segue to the fact that your very next issue will cover this in more detail. Not to mention that to all the Japanese collectors out there that here is a resource you can tap into. You could increase your subscribers. As for thankless, or no responses...we (the queen's we) are all guilty of this .
    20. Thank you for sharing fukuoka. I found this thread very informative. Over the years I have found the Japanese awards and decorations more and more interesting. This forum has provided a great source for information, that leads new collectors to inquire more, and existing collectors to delve deeper. This can result in greater attention and interest in this field. When information is hidden or hard to verify, it is discouraging to new collectors. They can become frustrated and eventually become less interested. Your newsletter is probably just that "link" to early interests to indepth research. I wouldn't apologize for plugging you newsletter. In fact, I would advertise that you have newsletter on the bottom of all of your posts (as part of your Signature) and what you can expect to learn inside. After just a "taste" of the information that you provide online, new or existing collectors may want to have access to the delicious details. The real "meat" of the story. So....regarding the Donations to the fleet building medal....any of those donations used to build ships that were used at the Battle of Tsushima?
    21. Now hold on here....some of his time was playing WoW, so not all of his time was wasted fixing up his house ;)
