    4. That EK1 must be about as rare as you can get with WW2 EKs?
    5. Hi, they were just to the right of your 180 IR, in fact, the 3rd Comapany was right next to the 3rd company of the 180th. The RIR99 was at Thiepval, the 3rd company just to the south west in the Granatloch. The Highland light infantry broke into their lines and wiped out most of the company in hand to hand fighting. best Chris
    6. Thats really nice, and for me exotic.... was there not a recent TV series in the UK about police at Whitechapel?
    7. I horribly used my daughter today... going into one of those "we guy gold and old silver " shops today the woman there was facinated with the little girl. I explained she ate like a horse, and left little money for my hobby after buying so much pink clothing and shoes for a demanding 4 year old. I asked if they had any medals and she pulled this out... "ooooohhh... loooook at the little cutie!" "What do you want for the medal?" "Oooooooohhh... look at the little cutie... you can have it for 20.... oooohhh loook at the little cutie....!" needless to say, I will be taking little cuttie to town more often... Does anyone have any idea who the maker was?
    8. Here are Postcard 1, 2 and 4..... I wish i knew which branch of service 3 was... maybe cavalry?
    9. There were of course far fewer German casualties on the 1st day of the Somme.... so let me offer this little Gem.... it has been cut down to frame, but is actually much more practicle than one that has its ful white paper rim....
    10. Wow.... thats a blast from the past. i was priveledged to see the group when it was in the 1st collectors hands to own it. As I said, this was peanuts in a collection that puts museums to shame... it came from the family to the collector, all he wanted was a battle of britain group. he simply shrugged when I mentioned the cross was a round three... you could almost hear him ask "... arnt they all?" I know collectors have argues that such anealry cross simply should not have the stamp... ihave no explanation... the group is what it is...
    11. Are there screwback Zimmermann with different plates/screws that can be found on this cross?
    12. I think there are GSWA medals that have the unit somtimes with Afrikkans sometimes English initials? Were the OFS ones not sometime Free state Mounted Rifles, sometimes Vry staat Skuters? best Chris
    13. He has great numbers, up until the end of 1917 where it was 2 900 000. It says 5 000 000 till the end of the war, I think the source is a from a 1920s reference. I really, really dont believe the 5 000 000. The bookkeeping up until the last quarter of 1917 was really good, then it seems to be a wild guess and the proportions just dont work out. It is a really, really great book, but i have an issue with the 5 000 000. (My issue is that using about 750 award dates, I calculate proportionally how many were before and after the last accurate number in late 1917... and it is less than the 5 000 000)
