    1. Hi, I once had a cross that had the goodies on the back removed and had small holes drilles in each of the corners... IMHO not practicle at all, although there would be no dis-coloring of silver rubbed by thread. There are also examples if sew on with loops on the back.
    2. Fantastic award! If he killed 37 in one night he may have gotten some other awards?
    3. For me the argument for arming against criminals fell kinda flat with the shooting in new york last month... If I remember correctly the first headline was along the lines of "9 shot at empire state building... police kill shooter"... then it turned out the shooter was not a gunman run amok, he had had killed one specific person... the 8 other folks shot were hit by 2 policemen out to save the folks around them... imagine the total of people shot if just 2 or 3 civvie bystanders had pulled out guns... the cops would have shot them as well, not knowing they were "good guys"... unless they had shot each other first, thinking the other shooters in civvies clothing were probably bad guys as well.... just run the scenario through your head and figure how it would have played out... A guy shoots another guy on the street... cops arrive and open fire hitting 8 people... 3 other guys pull guns and suddenly lead is flying and noone knows who is who... Then another cop arrives... do you think he is going to assume that a civvie with a gun is a good guy? Will he take a chance? Total clusterfck.
    4. A looooooong time. In each case a friend pointed me in the direction... strangely I have never "just found one"...
    5. I have posted these before, spread all over... so thought I would regroup them here..... Leutnant d. Res Alwin Zirkler, a Lawyer after the war.
    6. I dont buy it.... The sew on EKs had holes in silver... no big deal when thread rubs on it... These are blackened... let the thread rub in it and in a couple of months the black on the corners would be rubbed off leaving a funny looking cross indeed....
    7. Hi, Is it a miniature? I guess 18ct gold is more likely for a mini than a full sized gong.
    8. I am not sure one way or another, but would like to point out, museums often have howling errors... depending on who is doing the labelling, and what sources they use. Best Chris
    9. He seems to have had a thing for Italian Virgins... http://books.google.de/books/about/The_history_of_the_Vestal_virgins_of_Rom.html?id=auAoAAAAYAAJ&redir_esc=y
    10. Hi, can you post a pic of both pairs next to each other? Thanks Chris
    11. I have just started... there is quite a bit more he did... Best Chris
    12. The monument. It is not to the men who took the farm, but to all Allied Champaign fighters, this includes US troops who fought in the sector.
    13. In the background you can see the Pyramid shape of the Main Monument to the Champagne Fighters and Dead, it is on the grunds of the remains of the Navarin Farm. It is the objective taken by Tiffays Regt on the day of the assulat. Of 2200 men who attacked, 1050 were killed. They more or less advanced from the cemetary to the Pyramid, as well as to the left and right of the Pyramid.
    14. This is the Grave of the Regt commander killed on the 25th September 1915, Tiffay retrieved his body under fire and brought it to the rear while under heavy fire...
