    1. Here are my only HK stuff I have... An EK doc to one crew member and a death doc to another. Both for the same action... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3296&hl=greif&st=0
    2. Fantastic grouping!! I used to have a "thing" for HK documents, but traded my small pile of years and years ago.
    3. I wonder if they spent their time in the cage making "theater made" badges after getting this in the mail? Great doc!
    4. Here you go... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12990&view=&hl="round%203"&fromsearch=1
    5. Hi Ben, will have to trawel my hard drive to see if I still have it. best Chris
    6. Nice bar, who would have gotten 3 Finnish awards? Best Chris
    7. Paul C tells me he had a 3rd medal on his bar... Hausorden of Hohenzollern....... I guess that makes it harder to find a ribon bar for the jacket....
    8. Hi, I am guessing various makers over a long period of time. Best Chris
    9. Hi, looks a bit like one of those Italian collar stars... or a guy who was a Big Hero!
    10. I think the blue white ribboned one is for saving a life in mid 1914... nice medal. Best Chris
    11. No Siegel on the Boer medal roll, but this is not unusual as most foreign volunteers were no longer in the country when it came time to apply for the medal. I suspect very stongly he was in the German Corps. 1902-1910 many German language histories came out about the war. Not bad is one by Richard Runck who served with the German Korps. They are all over German E-Bay. Best Chris
    12. Hi, volume 29, page 40. mentions his wounding and I suppose subsequent capture near Arras in 1918. Best Chris
    13. Hi, the history of the 104th FA during the war mentions both battalion commanders September-November, one being "Major Seymour" which seems to fit with the group. "The Volker-Stellung of the German defensive system runs east out of a point just south of Consenvoye over the high ground across the Brabant wood, skirts the Ormont wood and goes east at the south edge of Moirey wood. At the point where this line crosses the Brabant-Etraye road, Major Seymour's Battalion went into position and further up the road on the left side Major Austin's Battalion went into position. " I suppose there may be a possibility of an error on the roles? Best Chris
    14. Hi, They are free to bid I guess... but how to prove what it supposedly is?
    15. Interesting story, but hard to find info on. i can check if he was on the ABO war roll tonight. Best Chris
    16. Who said... "The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." " question for a champion...

    18. I would imagine the last official entry was in 1940 and that Ali or the vet association added the reat at a later date. My Livret was signed off on when I left the army, since then i have had some awards that were given out retroactively. If I wanted to enter them then we would have the same situation. I would enter them and it would arouse questions when it is a collectors hands 40 years from now. Dont forget, the Croix de combattant is a long after the fact medal, some awarded 10 or 20 years after someone leaves the army. Although the association medals are not official, many old soldiers dont realise that, and I as Ali was a civvie all those years later, there was probably noone to stop him entering the "croix de combattant European". I have seen a number of soldiers, starting with WW2 German vets and ending with Afghanistan Vets who have this and think it is legitimate. Once someone is out of uniform whats "official" and not come become blurred, and in some cases uninteresting to the wearer. Best Chris
    19. I Would guess that the award entries to the paybook were made by the vetrans association after the war. no reason for the military to have a hand in it as he was no longer serving. I bet there is some local historian somewhere who has some self published stuff about the resistence in his area.... now you just have to find them...
