?nd I have to say that the st Anne ribbons are quite oftener found on naval bars than on land-bars.... Which might be another hint for the naval-theme of this bar. And also, I meant to have readed somewhere and somehow that the russians also had a ribbon as a sign of merit instead of a "complete" medal. Might be the same as the "unit citations" which are common with the Americans, also just a piece of ribbon and not a "complete" medal. But I might also be completely off-road.

Hi Ed, it appears to be a badge for a "Fahrlehrer" driving instructor Considering the appearance of this badge, a driving instructor for tanks Kind regards, Jacky

A bit late reaction, but what I meant with Officers class is the international nomen-clatuur of decorations. Just: Grand cross Grand Commander/Grand officer etc Commander Officer Knight Member affilated medals I meant this officer, the grade between commander ?nd knight Not the militairy officer... Kind regards, Jacky

the ribbon for the cross of mercy is bleu-ish but this ribbon is green. Concerning the ribbon of the order of st Anna, there was also a medal of Zeal, which had been awarded quite extensive! The ribbon denoted the rank of the receipment, soldiers would receive this medal on the ribbon of a lower order than NCO's. A medal of zeal is quite possible... Kind regards, Jacky

Andreas has written about this order on his site! It's very complete and nicely written! Brunswick Order Brunswick order with swords Kind regards, Jacky p.s. nice pictures of your order! This one differs from andrea's pictures... This is a knight 2nd class. But the non enamelled reverse is something which I can't explain.... Could this be possible that this is a private purchase??

Interesting 1814 ex votos in Abbey of Einseideln
Jacky replied to JimZ's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
well, all I can tell you is that ex voto is latin for "as promised" This means that a christian offers the church something as a way to say thank you to the Lord for having helped him. This present isn't necessarily valuable, it might even be a doll from a woman who had struggled for many years with her inability to get pregnant and at last got pregnant, then she would give the church a doll as way to say thank you for my baby. In this case the ex voto is clearly pictured with the black madonna, and the year 1814.... What then happened? You should as Ed as he's teaching history;) The last explanation says that "by advocacy of our lady of mercy, our house had been spared from the bullets/grenades" This explains why the pictures have been given to the church, quid pro quo, just to reward the lady for her help Kind regards, Jacky -
But then... How comes the merit cross with the star?? Someone might have put them together and said whow, that's nice.... It remains still a little shady why the cross is together with the star. Might it be possible that a german NCO had taken his own cross and pinned/given it to the private?? Kind regards, Jacky

Even the second type is really magnificient, with the very pronouncable beard and mustache!!! Many of us might wish to have such a wonderfull and very well trimmed beard But the size is really sorry, saving one's life might have saved a world, and all one gets is just a plain small medal.... Well it's the thought beyond it. And one doesn't save a life to get a medal.

Wonderfull pictures & missions.. An aquintance of mine also went there, you might have met him as I thought that the Aussies and the Dutchies shared the same camp.... Wasn't it "Camp Holland"? Kind regards, Jacky

Fabulous!! Bavarian merit cross with swords & crown, quite a high decoration for a "simple" private, even a POW!! But his group isn't as extensive as I thought. No War medal and/or Victory medal... I thought that those were also awarded to POWs?? Or just forgotten him, perhaps due to the german decoration?

My Uncle Johns' Medals
Jacky replied to Martin W's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Wonderfull pictures and medal group! Both of your uncle as well as your grandfather. I wonder whether you're going to gain all the family's medalgroups/medals? How many of their generation have served and collected their gongs? Kind regards, Jacky -
Belgium Belgian Order of the Crown
Jacky replied to Laurence Strong's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Nice one!! Another belgian "subject" under your reign, laurence To me, it looks quite modern, due to the quite flat shapes etc. Could you give me perhaps a side-shot? Kind regards, Jacky -
Hello Brian, Yes they're both the correct ribbon. Concerning your questions, perhaps could you better post all your questions in 1 thread instead of creating different threads for all your individual or pairswise medals. Kind regards, Jacky Humm beaten within 1 minute by kevin, but as long as it's being beaten by him.... I don't mind
