Congratulations on a positive identification, however long it took, personally I really enjoy that positive discovery or confirmed identification however long it takes.
Regards Simon.
Ian,
Forgot to ask have you got your Great Uncle's medals or know where they are? I see he is also entitled to a SWB for his injuries Certificate number 291290 and address given as 3 West Terrace, Redcar.
Simon
Ian,
As a start his Medal Index Card shows his WW1 Medal entitlement as the British War Medal and Victory Medal recorded on Roll 01/1/165B46 Page 11064, do you have them or they still in the Family?
The Medal roll confirms that he served in 24/27th, 25th and 12/13th Battalions as you said.
Will try and see if his Service or Attestation Forms are still available.
Simon
Chris,
To me the only cause for concern would be that the lettering looks a little large compared to other Stars I have had. The font and layout appear fine and as you say I have seen 'Private' represented in both styles.
A very desirable medal bearing in mind the Unit and the fact that he was KIA with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
Simon
Hendrik,
Many thanks for clearing that up, learnt a lot about Brigade Piron yesterday whilst trying to find out about his medal entitlement.
Am I right in thinking that his British medals would be worn after his Belgian awards and were they permitted to be worn in uniform whilst on duty?
Regards Simon.
Stuka,
Congratulations on acquiring a wonderful and what appears to be a complete Group to a Man who obviously saw more than his fair share of fighting for his Country.
Would he have qualified for any WW2 British campaign stars or did Service in the Belgian Forces in the UK not entitle him to that?
Regards Simon.
Lone Wolf,
An interesting Medal and certainly one I have not come across before. Do you know the official title of this Medal, I have checked my resources and can't find it, also wondered if you know what ribbon was used?
Regards Simon.
Tony,
Only just seen this, some very nice cards indeed. Would like to view them under a glass to attempt to positively identify each Regiment.
Regards Simon
Here is a nice London Scottish Group photograph which passed through the collection recently, Although dated 1932 I have included it here as it shows World War 1 service ribbons in wear.
