    2. Hi chaps, I don't think I have anymore on Oberst Schuch but I should imagine the regimental history of the 3. Infanterie-Regiment will have a portrait of him. If I come across it I will certainly look. Regards Glenn

    5. Chris, photographing 600 pages sounds like pretty numbing stuff. How you considered buying a dedicated book scanner? I bought a Plustek Opticbook 3600 plus recently which I am extremely pleased with, The glass scanning area reaches almost flush with the edge of the scanner enabling pages to be placed flat on the glass for very good results indeed. The Plus version also comes with supplied pdf software for the easy creation of "ebooks". Mine was about 300 Euros. Regards Glenn
    6. Chris, I was finishing copying the 1904 Milit?r-Wochenblatt today and came across this which I thought might interest you. Published in edition No. 143 of the Milit?r-Wochenblatt published on Thursday the 22nd of November 1904. "Your" Gefreiter Teske is on line 9 of column 3398. This entire page lists awards of the Milit?r-Ehrenzeichen 2. Klasse. Regards Glenn
    7. Some further information regarding Dr. Czarnikow: Born 1869, he was appointed to the staff of the 5. Division on 1 October 1900 18.10.00: Appointed Kriegsgerichtsrat (A1) (Rat V. Klasse) 23.12.09: Awarded the Rank of Rat. IV. Klasse). Major equivalent By 1917 holder of the RAO4, EK2 Regards Glenn
    8. Hi westfale, Kriegsgerichtsrat Martin Czarnikow was a reserve officer in Neum?rkisches Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 54. He was commissioned into this regiment on the 14th of September 1893. His reserve officer promotions: Sekondelieutenant/Leutnant d.R.: 14.9.93 D3d Oberleutnant d.R.: 22.3.03 O5o Hauptmann d.R.: 16.11.10 Regards Glenn
    9. Chris, I think the names must be changed. There was no officer of the name Cortez either active or reserve or Landwehr in the Prussian Army at least until the end of 1915. Regards Glenn
    10. Rick, probably made char. Major. d.L. at wars end but so far have been unable to find that promotion. Herr Wilkenh?ner was a Kreisschulinspektor in Lennep by profession. Originally commiss?oned into F?silier-Regiment Nr. 36 Sekonde-Lieutenant/Leutnant d.R.: 15.12.94 Q Oberleutnant d.R.: 22.4.05 Hh Hauptmann d.L.: 19.7.13 Regards Glenn
    11. And here is the relevant page from the Milit?r-Wochenblatt of 25 June 1914 granting permission for the wear of non Prussian orders. It will be seen that Hauptmann v. Frobel's regimental commander, Oberst Hans Karl von Winterfeldt was awarded the commander's cross of the same order at the same time. Regards Glenn
    12. And the various pre war insignia taken from "Das Deutsche Heer Friedensuniformen bei Ausbruch des Weltkrieges". Regards Glenn
    13. Mike, The pre war insignia took the form of the epaulette bridles which in the case of z.D. officers had three stripes in the state colour and those for a.D. types, a ziz-zag pattern. With the abolition of the epaulette for the new 1915 "Friedensuniform", the difference was in the shoulder boards. A couple of points: z.D. officers in established posts such as Bezirkskommandeure, Bezirksoffiziere etc wore the normal "active" insignia. The 1915 special z.D and a.D. boards were only worn on the "Friedensuniform". Here are the 1915 pattern from "Deutschlands Armee in feldgrauer Kriegs-und Friedens-Uniform". Regards Glenn
    14. Chris, The then Major N??lein retired from Sanit?ts-Abteilung Nr. 7 on 31.1.1928. Regards Glenn
    15. Dave, I agree that that must be Ludwig III. The guy with the baton is GFM Prinz Leopold v. Bayern. Regards Glenn
    16. Rick, old Ferdinand was a Bezirksfeldwebel on the staff of Landwehr-Bezirk Stade. Bezirksfeldwebel (retd) Ferdinand Caville was elevated to the rank of charakterisierter Leutnant a.D. on the 15th of December 1906 shortly after his retirement. Landwehr-Bezirk Stade was subordinated to the 81. Infanterie-Brigade, thus the connection with that brigade. Regards Glenn
    17. Greetings, not sure about the "Rittmeister". The only Finscher in the Prussian Army ended up as an Hauptmann der Landwehr. It is the same guy as he was originally a reserve officer in the Kassel based Infanterie-Regiment von Wittich (3. Kurhessisches) Nr. 83 and a judge in civilian life. Promotions: Leutnant der Reserve: 19.9.01 J2j Oberleutnant der Reserve: 18.10.10 Hauptmann der Landwehr I: 24.12.14 In 1902 he was living at Nebelthaustra?e 1 in Cassel and by 1905 he was a Gerichtsassessor (junior legal official) at the same address. By 1911 he was employed as a municipal court judge in N?renberg in Kreis Arnswalde. I have him as serving in Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 233 during the war. Regards Glenn

    22. Rick, I agree that that is most probably the then Major Viktor Reinhard originally from F.R. 39. Hauptmann d.R. Dr. jur. Wilhelm Steinkr?ger, an attorney, practicing in M?hlheim am Rhein, was killed in action at Verdun on 14 May 1916 Hauptmann d. R.
