    1. well-a few months late, but yeah...there's quite a bit of recent scholarship that demonstrates how extensive the Bourbon intelligence network was. There's no doubt they tried quietly to kill him and while recently rehashing of "was he poisoned" reworking indicates he probably died of stomach cancer, one of the reasons he abandoned Elba was the Bourbons refused to pay his pension (guaranteed by the treaty of 1814), with which he was paying his small court on the island.
    2. woaw!! Who is that on the right? See this "allied" thread: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=13343 According to this thread below, Mackensen was in Turkey in January, 1916: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=120531
    3. It makes sense if he got it as a Gefreiter/Corp. on his way up. There are lots of photos of Vitzfeldwebels and officer Stellvtrs. and even Lt.s d L/R with lower medals being worn.
    4. He could also have been a Bavarian NCO who got shuffled into a reconstituted Bavarian unit. I have got a Bavarian reserve artillery unit book that mention NCOs (who were later promoted to Lt. dL.) drawn from FAR 14. The Bavarian medals aren't seen very often with other state's medals (for other ranks-the MVO4x seems to have been given out with enormous frequency). A war time bar? No HKx or Kyfsrerbund medals and why else would you have this made? That last ribbon though-what exactly are its colors?
    5. Because he was an officer/warrant officer: Lt dR -dL or Officerstellvtr. who got shuffled into a baden artillery/infantry regiment in 1915/16.
    6. well, I'd be happy to pay you-not Lawyers rates per hour though Thanks, May i have all of those that might be/ become available?p.s. I can offer useful trade info. I am old fashioned no Pdf. for me on this end though-I xerox everything.
    7. Try Torsten: he's in Liverpool: germanmiliteria.com he's an NVA vet himself.
    8. NICE CDV! I think the shako chap is a gendarme, but others will know for certain.
    9. Foolishness?? How dare she?! That is absurd. This is important stuff. Knowing who had these badges fleshes out the whole partisan association, which was a bulwark of the Hungarian socialist party! Pshaw!
    10. Great cross! Does Gordon know what/who the "square" is? I was at a baseball game-getting rained upon. But next month-the "supplier" will be back so we'll be there-elbowing those Polish and Russian chaps aside in the scrum for more Austrian/DDR/Soviet and Hungarian pieces.
    11. well spotted Mr. Lumsden!! http://www.historisches-lexikon-bayerns.de...tsche-tage2.jpg
    12. Well, it is certainly Yankee, some sort of unit commendation award-but what is this? My references (limited) don't have this one. Does anyone recognize this? ROTC? Argentine staff support? Some sort of state award? Coast guard Auxillery? Thank you- Ulster
    13. "full" size image of the good Saxon Colonel as promised: I have a better scan of the full picture that i could email you-but at 600 dpm it's too large for this forum. sorry-
    14. Here is one of General Von Stein, died May 26, 1927: ((( Ah yes-- a LOVELY example of Promoted OFF Medal/Ribbon Bars!!!! )))
    15. very cool! Thanks GD. My first shooting club medal.
    16. I found this-jumbled in amongst the bric a brac- but what is it? It says : "3DJE Kompaniets Medalj 1945" on the back (3rd company medal?) between oak fronds... on the front is the crowned Queen with "Stockholms Stads Friviligia Skarpskytteforening" on it along the rim-("Stockhoms' City Volunteer -what?)....
