    1. Or he could have been a Sudeten German. @ 1939+ by the Flower war medal.
    2. Tony- Nice ribbon rack. I reme3mber a time in the USAF when there weren't nearly as many ribbons around. I haven't thought about "tdy" in 25 years. I would be very grateful if you would, for the sake of medal research and knowledge, expalin how you got each medal. It would be very interesting and educational. Thanks,
    3. I would suspect someone fiddled with them and then wonder if he was an ex-army man who became a tail gunner. I have seen discharge papers of master mechanics who flew the hump so many times as in service repair crew that they got air medals. The wings though....
    4. Isn't #2 a helmet badge? I like #1 -very nice.
    5. No-my fault-Kenya-very definetly Kenya (Mau Mau after all). I have Nigeria on my mind as I bought a Nigerian medal yesterday.
    6. Always on the lookout for decent gongs I noticed this in a National Geographic magazine last year-the medal bar of a Kenyan army Sjt. Maj. Timothy Brown Wando at a Mau Mau commemoration ceremony. Information on African medals is hard come by-let alone the medal bars themselves. These look great and I would be proud to have this as a center piece of my collection. However, I can only guess as to what and why most of the medals were actually awardedto Mr. Wando. Any ideas? Ed? Ed?
    7. Nice-but "frontline"? Wouldn't "frontline" be a combat ribbon with a steel medal?
    8. Thank you Mr. Floyd and Mr. Lundstrom!! So a Japanese officer on loan to the puppet state?
    9. Bloody heck! That is a really, really good bar. Any chance you can ever swap it back?
    10. Hmmm...I really need to get the OMSA book. Interesting stuff. Do you think it's pre 1946?
    11. Hmmmmm.... I am beginning to seriously wonder....
    12. "tabbies"-cats? Hmmm..... I think # 7 is supposed to be a WW1 victory-odd Japanese variation. I have read that they ignored the light blue stripe on the earlier ribbons.
    13. The Boy Scout medal is given for service to the scouts (a much more important organization in Thailand than hereabouts)-and donations, sometimes. One can also legitimately obtain a few royal orders for donations to the royal AIDS charity and the royal red cross charity. I think #13 is the 1988 longest reign commemorative medal.
    14. I bought the below bar this week from an impeccable source. However, I know nothing about Japanese medals beyond the basics- Rising Sun, Sacred Treasure, WW1 victory, Red Cross etc. Would anybody please be so kind as to let me know what the medals on the bar are and what they represent: navy NCO, army officer, postman, municipal recreration director? My deepest thanks.
    15. #4 is the Scout service medal-somewhat rare I am told. Looks "Beamterish" to me. Glad you like it. Please see what else I purchased at the same time. (Japan bar)
    16. I know you like them, so I thought I'd show you this. I am wondering about this one-as there's a Bulgarian badge that's a bit unusual for this rank peeking out from his left.
    17. I think your man was in the RIR 28. I have the history of IR 28 along with the officers' association lists etc. through 1935 and there is no Drews therein.
    18. From the Stars and Stripes, ETO edition, July 10, 1944: "The Age of Miricles, It Seems, Is Now Here George McCann, Chicago railroader, has been in the army just five weeks, but already he has been (1) Given a two week furlough, (2) sent to the ETO, and (3) been made a tech seregant. McCann reported for induction at Camp Planche, La., last month and immediately received the usual two weeks leave granted selectees. Later he embarked on a brief training program which earned him a T/4 rating. The drilling over, McCann was rushed to England and upon reporting to the Military Railroad Division was promoted to a five striper."
