    1. Good Lord. I just saw the Hungarian Warsaw military attaches' picture- and it is almost exactly the same size, style, inscription. I wonder if there was a series of these done?
    2. There were about 2 dozen veterans association flags at Boxboro last year. Rick and i got to paw through them. The guy who had them offered me the 465th Regt. flag with pole and silver disks for $400. Subsequently they have been scattered to the winds but the workmanship was superb. About 10 of them ended up @ 5 iles from my house. Now the guys want $1200 a flag for them- minus the poles too.
    3. very cool. I think there was a BDOS article on these a while back. Chris?
    4. Shame it wasn't issued in the 1980s. Thatcher allegedly considered it after the Soviets began handing out their medals.
    5. Good Lord! Jshorter- do you still have that regimental pair in post 58 above? I just saw that pair- without the medals- at Boxboro last month!!!
    6. They wore those white sun covers too in Mexico and in other hot places in the 1860s .
    7. Imperial Guard helmet @ 1955+ (maybe earlier, but the label looks @ 1960s). In superb condition i might add. VERY nice and rare, rare, rare. Just owning one of these got one beaten up or shot under the Communists.
    8. I did send an email to Ms. Fox! Her Dad is friends with my mine, via their church. So cross your fingers......I hope you live in California!
    9. Just testing the new photo sizes....
    10. hmmmm...I have seen this photo before in the Colson archives....but imagine owning the old geezers with the flags bar!
    11. we have a winner! I shall send Ms. fox an email and have her contact you directly.
    12. Ah, great analysis. But given the double knots I assumed the bar denotes 9 years GC plus 4 years USAF service ( possibly in my states Air National Guard ). The bar is very well made, with the WW2 style tailors brass fold over, with silk ribbons. so I assumed service between 1950 to 1962. If so, then he also rated a National Defense medal.
    13. I always wondered why UK personnel did not also rate the 39-45 star. I expect the defense medal was served by home service though.
    14. Wow. in 1994 these were sold for $80. The Ruptured Duck had about a score of them. If I could go back in time.......
    15. below is a picture of the lovely Megan Fox. Also below please find a US ribbon bar that I recently purchased at a flea market. It is very well made and almost certainly dates from the early-mid 1960s. The question is: what else do you think went with it? It is obviously one of at least a pair of ribbon bars. The long service medals however make one pause. The best answer wins my best efforts to get you a date with Ms. Fox!
    16. Very cool. Very, very cool. Now I know who has been driving the price of Boer campaign medals up. Hmmmmmmm.....
    17. and last but not least....the Falklands Island Flag that was taken from the house of Governor Rex Hunt by the Argentine journalist Carlos Malod (and he still has it) as war booty. He stole it and stuffed it inside his jacket. In 100 years or so I expect it will show up in a militaria auction and be hotly fought over....
    18. .......and this is the late Captain Ortiz, who was the commander of a mobile hospital during the war and as his base was being shot at, threw himself across the bodies of several wounded. He got the Heroism Cross @ 20 years later for his actions. Note he wears only the campaign medal, the Falklands commemorative bar (which i think is a separate award from the medal) , his vets association badge and the cross. RIP Captain Ortiz.
    19. This is a Provincial commemorative campaign medal for the war- issued by Terra Del Fuego to veterans @ 2010-11
