    1. Hi everybody, Recently I was Lucky enough to buy this very nice trapezoidal ribbon bar which belonged to a Saxon officer during the XIXth Century. The ribbon bar contains the following ribbons : - Saxon Merit Order knight cross - Saxon Long Service cross - Commemorative cross for the Franco Prussian war 1870-1871 - Centenary ribbon It is interresting to note that there is no ribbon for the Albert Cross. It is the clue for beginning the research. The other question was : when the Merit cross was awarded, before 1876 or after this date ? With those interrogations the research through the Ranglisten could begin. I speculate that this officer received the SV3 before 1876. I remember that the long service cross for officers has been created in 1874. SO i check the RL and I have found only one officer who received the SV3 (peacetime) and SDA. The commemorative cross for the war doesn't appear in the RL 1872, nor the Centernay medal in the RL 1898. My officer received the commander cross 2nd class of Albert in 1883. The name : Oberst a. D. Friedrich Fischer (1828-1900) He was born in Frohburg in 1828. He entered the Army in 1848 as a Cadet. Then he was promoted to Unteroffizier till he became Leutnant in 1859. Here is all his grade with date Leutnant : 30.07.1859 Oberleutnant : 20.03.1866 Hauptmann : 24.01.1870 Major : 27.11.1879 Oberstleutnant : 22.09.1890 Oberst : 22.04.1892 Here is the date of the awards SV3 : 28.03.1872 SDA : 1874 KDM 1870-1871 : 1871 PZM : 1897 SA2b : 17.03.1883 Sources : Saxon Ranglisten from 1859-1901 And a special Thanks to Andy who found the date of death.
    2. Hi, After another research, I have found that Benzien received the Baden knight cross 1st class with X of Zähringen Order on 26 November 1914. Only three days before his death. So this medal should appears on his mortuary coffin but never mouted on his medal bar. Christophe
