    1. Thank you Jeff! Maybe I'll get closer to who this guy is with this info. Unfortunatly the Swedish military lists only cover orders, not medals. But time will tell. Nice pic Odulf! I think an ID of this officer shouldn't be impossible. But I'll get back when I'm a 100%. /Kim
    2. I recently got this pic of a Swedish officer. The awards are a Swedish shooting badge and to the far right the Finnish medal of the White Rose. But in the middle there's an unknown (at least to me) medal. From the look of it I'm guessing that it's French. Does anyone recognize it? /Kim
    3. Hi Nr. 2 is Belotti's Swedish neck order for the grade "kommendör av 2:a klass", commander 2nd class. He was awarded in 1921. The medal doesn't look like any Swedish medal I have ever seen. Also Sweden has not had a queen since the 1600s, but that will change. So I doubt it's Swedish. /Kim
    4. A nice bar Michael! Do you think you'll find the Thai awards to complete it? Must be easier to find a nice pic of him wearing his bar than some odd Swede... /Kim
    5. Leonid Ivanovich Lizunov, 18 august 1945. /Kim *edit* Found him here: http://ilpilot.narod.ru/man/hsu/l/lizunov.html
    6. Hi Demir Here's a pic of the back. As you can see it's the English version. The Swedes in Korea got the English version of the UN medal. There never was a special UN medal for the Swedes in Korea or even national Korea medal for that matter, like the Danish Jutlandia or Norwegian Korea medal. Do you have anything from the hard fighting Turkish force in Korea? /Kim
    7. I got a reply from the Red Cross archive today. Not what we hoped for. No pics of his medal bar, but one of the man himself. To the left dr Philipson to the right... I don't know. Maybe she's the president of his fan club. /Kim
    8. It was just a single. I don't think the seller had any other medals for sale. Gold medals have bad habit of wander from groups... From the faded ribbon I guess he had his big medals mounted on the wall. For use at social events he had his minis. I can't see any other candidates for your bar. I hope the archive will give something more. If they don't reply in resonable time I'll ask again. Asking is free of charge. /Kim
    9. When I was going over my info on Swedish city medals (a never ending project for me) I disovered something interesting... The pic of Gothenburg's medal, found on an auction site, is probably the original for your mini Michael. I've had that pic for a looooong time but never made the connection. Anyway, it's out there somewhere and made of gold. So it's a treasure to look for. I've had no reply from the archive. But they can be slow and there's still hope for more info. Did you get the book? Anything good? /Kim
    10. Uniforms aren't really my thing. But I'm lucky enough to have a couple of references. The button is for "intendenturkåren" (quartermaster corps). The numbers are for the shoulderboard slip-on. They should be attached after Fo, which means "försvarsområde" (defence district". Either 46 (Vaxholm Fo) or 64 (Luleå Fo). Lucky you to be in Riga! I like that city but only been there a couple of times. /Kim
    11. Michael Here's an update on what is new: According to one of my collecting colleagues at skalman.nu Philipson became commander of Vasaorden in 1965. That would explain the missing RVO. You don't wear your RVO when you are a KVO. I'm in the process in mailing the archives. But I doubt much will come from them. They want money for everything they do and prices are... Too bad you picked up a west coast medal bar. Gothenburg is too far away for me to dig in the archives. Stockholm on the other hand is almost next door. Think of that for next time. Do you have his book about the Red cross experience? I saw that he also wrote a couple of children's books. /Kim
    12. Micheal The Swedish "statskalender" stoped listing orders in 1955. After that all orders were listed in the "ordenskalender". The foreign orders, no foreign medals are listed, are only listed if "utrikesdepartementet" (state department) had records of it. They kept good records, but not 100% complete ones. So the information must be taken with a pinch of salt. I'll try your bar at the Swedish forum. I think chances are a bit better getting answers. If you'd like I can always unleash an "email storm" on the Red Cross in Gothenburg. They are bound to have more info. Perhaps even a photo of the good doctor wearing the bar... /Kim
    13. It's the small medal for the Royal Patriotic Society, awarded mostly for long faithfull service. In Sweden these go for about 250sek, 32usd. The ones with Oscar II are more popular than later kings. See also: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17446&st=0&p=169267&hl=patriotiska&fromsearch=1&#entry169267 /Kim
    14. But does she have to "open" the auction at all? I have won stuff on German eBay that was only for sale inside Germany itself. If the seller agrees to ship it to Sweden it shouldn't be a problem, whatever the auction text says. /Kim
    15. According to my wife, she's Iraqi (Kurdish), it's for house ownership in Baghdad. She doesn't want to guess on the name as the scan is just too poor, but it's there. Hope you can use the information. /Kim
    16. Stefan, welcome to the forum. I emailed you in October about the subject and thought it would be worth a shot posting here. Award collectors are usualy very knowledgeable when it comes to awards and their history but seem to draw a blank in this case. Good luck with your quest. /Kim
    17. It would be a shame if this thread died. There are plenty more different nations that were in Korea that we haven't seen here... yet. I can't post much as Swedish Korean war stuff is scarce but here is a set I got recently. It's anonymous for the time being, but I hope I can change that. If I had to guess who it belonged to I would say a doctor at the hospital at Pusan. Time will tell if I'm right. /Kim
    18. A couple here: http://victory.rusarchives.ru/index.php?p=32&sec_id=59 /Kim
    19. I must have missed that one in the other thread Michael. It's a beauty. I have seen a couple of Jutlandia medals but groups are pretty much non-existent. Brett, your reference is probably mixing awards and orders. Orders are supposed to be returned but medals are yours to keep. /Kim
    20. Thanks Michael. I just hope the When isn't too far away. /Kim
    21. I just wanted to show the updated bar of Clas Livijn. Progress has been slow since I got it. The reason for this is mainly because research show that lieutenant colonel Livijn's orders/medals aren't what I assumed them to be. He did have the Ethiopian Menelik II but it was probably never mounted on the bar. The awards that were missing were: Order of the Sword (knight), Nit och Redlighet medal (For Zealous and Devoted Service) and Central Union for Officers Training badge of merit. The problem is that the Zealous and Devoted Service medals are all engraved with names of the recipients. Which means that I need to find his specific medal. But who knows where that medal is hiding. It could have been melted down for the gold... The result of this was that the the bar went to the bottom of Swedish shoebox no.2 (according to my archive system )to wait for a future reunite with lost awards. Some day.... Anyway this is a pic of what the bar looks like today. I don't have any Order of the Sword yet so the first one is actually the second medal on the bar. I didn't have any gold Zealous and Devoted... medals either, so it's a silver-stand in for the real one. All Z and D after 1947 were gold. The suspension and ribbon are the same for old and current issue medals. Can you spot the other new one... The medal part of this group is now resting/on stand by but the research is going strong. I haven't been to the central archives yet but plan to go soon. For the moment I keep busy with books connected to Livijns service, mainly UN. From one about the second Swedish UN battalion I got his pic. /Kim
    22. It would be interesting if there was some official record on immigrants to south Africa. But from my Swedish connection I was told that the records were searched and nothing came up. I need to ask him if it was only military records or everything available. I doubt that the Swedish embassy in SA would have any interest in this. If you're VOLVO or SAAB I'm sure you would get help. A question on a guy born more than 100 years ago, perhaps not so much. Peter Brown is the only Swede to be awarded the VC. So think it's very interesting to get his story right. Leigh: There are of course records, even a CD, of emigrants from Sweden. But there are about 900.000 Swedes to sort out. Most went to the USA but some elsewhere. But, like you point out, how can one be sure that he wrote "I'm going to South Africa" and was registered as such. If he just took a trip to England and decided to go to Africa from there, would he be on the list? Anyway the CD is on my to-do-list /Kim
    23. Thank for the help with this Mervyn. Peter Brown was born, according to his death certificate, in November 1832. So he wasn't exactly a young boy when he got the VC. Today when I checked 140 individuals had the last name BRUN in Sweden. But then again 434 were named BROWN. However I doubt that there were many Brown in 1832. So perhaps he changed his name when he came to South Africa. He might even have lied about being Swedish. On the other hand if he died of alcohol related illness, that sounds like a Swede on the 1800s. Is it IMPOSSIBLE to come to the bottom of this? Are there any immigrant lists in South Africa? What ways are my options? I have attached a small pic that I got from the museum that has Brown's VC in SA. PS Today a total of 12 197 people have the name Lundström... :ninja:
