    4. Hi again, Obras Nucleares 15 anos might exist (in stock) but was never awarded, the critaria was never met because the Nuclear plant shut down without being completed, the award was created on 12th March 1989 and on September 5th, 1992 Juragua building work was suspended. In October 1995 - January 1997 a restart of the programm was attempted. As for the Gold stars, Ochoa and Tamajo's Hero stars have been up for auction over the years. Unlike Soviet Gold stars the Cuban variations are at the most gold plated silver and are never numbered, many many more have been produced than have been issued or are ever likley to be to. Those for sale which can't be attributed to a recipient have gone missing from the stock i imagine Many questions still to be answered but not many years ago absolutley nothing was to be found on Cuban awards at all. Regards Eddie
    5. Hi zaivars, Bit late, i seem to have missed your question, strange i think i should have been notified that there was a new post, oh well nvm. Yes that Far reverse is a wierd one, it's the only one to date that i have seen and it is in my humble Cuban collection. With regards collecting (Castro) Cuban awards, all seem to be availiable . Distinción "Constructor de Obras Nucleares" is harder to get and the Medalla "De la Emigración" not often seen, but they are there. Regards Eddie
    6. Hello John CC usually means cross country but wether that applys here i'm not sure. Regards Eddie
    7. Walter, Alex Ministerialbeamter *17.1.1888 Berlin †nach 1944 n.e. 1909 Referendar 1913 Promotion (Dr. jur.) 1915 Assessor 1919 Gerichtsoffizier im Freikorps Weihlmann 1919 Assessor im RWiMin. seit 1920 RegR im REMin. 1921 ORegR in Abt. II (Kommunalangelegenheiten, Agrarpolitik) 1924 in der Abt. II (Zoll- und Handelspolitik) 1925 MinR 1935 MinDir. der Abt. V (Zoll- und Handelspolitik) 1937 Mitglied der NSDAP 1939 SS-Sturmbannführer I imagine that because of his job as one of the leading directors in the Agriculture Ministery he travelled a lot to various countries, this could be why he had the awards. As far as i can see he died after 1944 but exactly when and how is not known, or at least i couldn't find anything. Regards Eddie
    8. Hi Linas. The style is very similar to that used by the Spanish Blue division (División Española de Voluntarios) on the eastern front in WWII, with the Heraldic insignia of the Spanish Army, maybe that area and the civil war is worth more research. Regards Eddie
    9. L.G. (Suppl) 17 January 1919, pg 879 sub-heading: TANK CORPS The grant of the actg. rank of Capt. to temp. 2nd Lt. S. C. W. Cruikshank, notified in Gaz. 9 Dec. 1918, is cancelled. Not much info sorry, Regards Eddie
    10. David, How big are these badges? And what's on the reverse? They could be Middlesex Yeomanry horse bosses but a lot of regiments use the motto.
    11. Bit of info here, probably known to you already http://homepages.force9.net/rothwell/burmaweb/BMP.htm Regards Eddie
    12. Hi again, well i would say it's the left hand collar badge of the Royal Devonshire Yeomanry but that is only my humble opinion Regards Eddie
    13. Welcome Jeremy, At first glance it looked like the Royal Devonshire Yeomanry Cap badge but the lion is facing the wrong way, maybe a collar badge? Regards Eddie
    14. IMHO the honour of representing ones country at the Olympics should not need an extra cash incentive to do well. Money ruins any sport, although nowadays it is more about buisness than team spirit and national pride.
    15. Here is the original text in German. Any help would be much apprieciated : ) Regards Eddie
    16. Hi all, Does anyone recognise this tool at all? It seems to be something Luftwaffe related but post war era and i don't know if it's is Luftwaffe specific or not.
    17. Bit of info on PTE William King of the 1st BN Hampshire Regt 1898 Oct/Dec Born Basingstoke, Hants 1920 Nov 5 . 18. No Medals for service in Korea were issued after 27th July 1954, the UN’s arbitrarily imposed cut-off date for the issuance of the United Nations Korea Medal apart from the below exceptions. The Military forces of the Netherlands were awarded the medal for service up to January 1st, 1955 and the militaries of Thailand and Sweden granted the award to July 27th, 1955. After the cease-fire, it was seen as unnecessary to keep BUNC up to the strength it had during the war and it was reduced to some 200 men on 30th December 1954. However, like other UN contingents it was viewed as necessary to maintain a presence and the last members of the unit finally left Korea on 15th June 1955. In my opinion these would also have the Korea bar if they served in Korea ( or in post #5 stated areas) from 27th June, 1950 to 27th July 1954. After this date there should be no offical awardings for Belgian troops. (27th July 1954 - 15th June 1955). Could the Medals without clasps be unissued examples? I say that because if you were eligiable for the Medal as such, you automatically met the reqirements for the clasp.
    19. UN Medal for service in Korea - Belgian issue. No. of Clasps - One, Bronze, slide on type, 38mm long and 5mm deep with the inscription in relief of 3mm "COREE-COREA" - All volunteers of the Battalion Belge who qualified for the medal are entitled to this clasp. Medal Qualification - For Belgian personnel, one day's service under United Nations command in Korea or the adjacent areas, which included Japan and Okinawa, between 27th June, 1950 and 27th July 1953. UN Medal for service in Korea - French issue. No. of Clasps - One, an integral part of the suspension. ‘COREE’ - (KOREA) in French, All volunteers of the Battalion Belge who qualified for the medal are entitled to this clasp. Medal Qualification - For French personnel one day's service under United Nations command in Korea or the adjacent areas, which included Japan and Okinawa, between 27th June 1950 and 27th July 1953. For French Canadian personnel, service under United Nations command in Korea or the adjacent areas, which included Japan and Okinawa, between 27th June 1950 and 24th July 1954, and served one day or more. All officers and other ranks of the French Canadian Forces The eligibility of those units were published in General Orders by the United Nations Commander-in-Chief, Members of specially approved civilian categories who were certified by the United Nations Commander-in-Chief as having directly supported military operations in Korea, providing they wore the approved uniform of their organisation and served one or more days. This included:- (1) Cable and Wireless Detachments. (2) Canadian Red Cross. (3) Salvation Army, YMCA and WVS. French coinage UN Medal only issued when requested by Francophone recipients. So according to this, people who qualified for the Medal are also qualified for the clasp, in effect someone who served during the conflict would always have the bar. Regards Eddie
    20. Probably the same source that you already have, Deputies of the Parliament of Abkhazia on the day of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1992-1993. established a new State award the ''order of courage." The Chairman of the Committee on legislation,Vladimir Nacac said on October 11, 2007 which marks 15 years since the creation of the armed forces of the Republic of Abkhazia. "The Republic is preparing to commemorate 15 years of victory the people of Abkhazia in the Patriotic War of 1992-1993 war, many participants, including members of the armed forces merit not awarded medals," he said. Order of courage will be rewarded with the soldiers for a particular courage, dedication and courage, others merit shown in the performance of military duty, as well as the police and customs officers.
    21. Very interesting Thread Megan, The offical site only lists the four Medals/Orders as State decorations though so no help there either =S http://www.apsny.ru/...agrada.htm#NGR1 Medal "Hero of Abkhazia'' Order of Leon Medal "Valour'' Order of ''honour and glory'' ("AKHDZ-APSHA") Regards Eddie
