Bundesrepublik EK1 1957

This just goes to show that if you bought a long time ago and don't keep up with prices then it all comes a a big surprise As Luftmensch mentions, at 1500USD the price doesn't after all seem all that wacky. unfortunately from the picks I couldn't spot the indentation or pin recess. In the end if you like, go for it, I repeat nice piece regards Alex

Hi Mike, bit difficult for me to give a precise answer as to the price, I bought mine, to be fair with enamel damaged for ?22 in 1983. 500 Euro seems a bit steep to me, but I could be wrong, perhaps others could point you in the right direction, still a very nice and desirable piece in my opinion regards Alex

Hi Mike a beautiful example, any pictures of the reverse? I have an example by Godet but enamel damaged unfortunately, If the price is reasonable I would buy it, it looks in mint condition regards Alex K Edit, sorry for some strange reason didn't spot the photo of the reverse , it's identical to mine

Bundesrepublik Some Nice Early 57 Pieces
Alex K replied to DavidM's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Hi David, look like some nice early pieces, and not the tinsel which came later, the fronts look very well defined, well done. Alex K -
To my eyes, (And it is late), the eagle looks like a chicken. I have to agree however , I wouldn't spend money on this, given it's rarity value regards Alex K

No. 1 Squadron in France after Dunkirk
Alex K replied to Stevebee's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
Hi Steve, here's a brief link about No 1 Squadron, Here it says that the ground crew came out be sea, maybe they did stay behind to destroy unusable equipment, but didn't fly out. maybe a bit more research is required regards Alex K http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwt...allery_03.shtml -
Hi Ian, I would say that it's a nice original, is the maker mark 27?, if so it's by Anton Schenkels Vienna Regards Alex K

Filing out names on medals
Alex K replied to Colin Davie's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
Hi Colin, could be that the person who did this actually lost, pawned his original medals, even possibly whilst still serving. He would still have to have his medals for display on parades etc, so he obtained replacements named to other people, possibly also pawned, not wanting to wear medals named tpo other people simply filed of the names, thus making the anonymous. regards Alex -
Hi Sebastian, welcome, as previously stated these are fairly common medals and as yet do not have the value for the fakers, I would agree that they are authentic. The one star that IS faked a great deal is the "Aircrew Europe" star, this being the rarest of all of the Brit stars issued, I would take great care if you see one and wish to purchase. Unfortunately, with rarity comes the con artist, in this respect there's no difference with these and TR, imperial German and Soviet awards, Kaveat Empor, seek advice. Edit, by the way, this is a completely genuine example regards Alex K

Another previously unknown maker we all live and learn I'll have to keep my eyes open for any other things made by them, well spotted regards Alex

Hi Rick thanks for that, if awarded on a basis of 1=100, how many are likely to have been awarded? regards Alex
-
Hi, Yet another award dragged up from deep within the bowels of my collection, Had it for many years but bought on the spot and little reseach done, anyone know what it is, I suspect that it is semi offocial at best. the cross is not distorted but unfortunately the pin does not retract all the way so the scanner has distorted it the reverse is stamped H C Timm?Berlin No?9 ( I think) the enamel repair seems to be period thanks regards Alex K
