    1. Thanks Gordon, I can hardly wait to see what it is. Just out of curiosity, what is this measurement? For the boards, have you observed a violet varient to the FD boards? They are definitely not pink or carmine.
    2. Thanks Gordon. I will make the measurements when I get home. What are you thinking...? The CT is very very worn as well. The wear is equal to that on the tabs. Just no fraying yet. The attaching thread is the same as seen on the collar tabs. The tunic is so worn that the stampings are completely gone. I know what you are saying about the Stassi and BG light weight tunics. I have both(several of each) and none have the CT. I would be suspicous if the wear was non consistant with the insignia and tunic. I lifted up the edge of the CT and there is a shadow. It has been there a long time and worn that way. I am very perplexed. What do you make of the boards on the second tunic?
    3. Here is a photo I found on this site of my second tunic. As I remember, the insignia wear is very consistent here too. I will post more images when I get to the tunic in my field day. I do remember these strange boards. They definitely are not Fire Dept. The underlay is a nice violet. I have never seen these before or since. I will check for tunic stampings as well. I would think that they should have NVA stamps, right?
    4. Here is one of my uniforms. Unfortunately, I only have two light weight tunics. I am in the process of spring cleaning/reorganizing in my basement and I will share the other once I get to it. A few people will have something negative to say about the CT being on the summer uniform. All I can say is that the wear and attachment thread is the same on both the litzen and the CT. I believe that the shoulder boards were added recently. The tunic is very heavily worn. The fabric on the CT is worn very thin in spots. Notice the similar wear on the litzen(especially on the corners). With CT wear rules aside, there are some very uncontroversial attributes present here... Either there were unknown uniform regs for the Civil Defense or they just were not followed. Regardless, all insignia except the boards are very heavily worn... on the tunic.
    5. Wow Bernhard!! Where did you find this story? For someone who was legally blind, he did very well in a short period of time. I would like to know the stories behind his DKiG and RKs! He sounds like one heck of a guy!
    6. Rick, Your biographical database never fails to amaze me!! Thanks for this very interesting education! Paul
    7. I agree... well done! Are the Soviet awards attributed to Stalingrad participants? BTW, I sent you a facebook friend invite!
    8. Amazing how much life is brought into these awards with getting the research done! Congrats!
    9. Thank you for sharing this beautiful medal. I have not seen more than a couple, including yours! I cannot believe how rarely they were awarded.
    10. I have permission from the seller of the HG version to use the photos. They belong to Chad. He wanted me to tell everyone that it is available. I wish I had the funds!! This man would have worn the officer visor and side arm!
    11. Here is another one. This candidate is at a lower level of the OCS process. Notice the EM collar piping and the slide on cord on the shoulder strap. Also, the medical cipher on the shoulder straps was only used by officer candidates. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtop...st&p=183792
    12. Thanks Larry... it is amazing how much data has been lost to time!!
    13. You guys beat me to it! Here is another example... It is far sale on the Estand. http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/sho...ad.php?t=325864 Naxos, I love that board!
    14. Those are some really nice pieces. I think that the Ecuadorian and French boards are very attractive!
    15. Dan, That is a very interesting article(on the Luftarchiv). They do look like submarine conning towers!
    16. Hello... That is correct. The LW is a little different than the Heer in this regard. The LW Officer Candidate did use the NCO uniform except that instead of the NCO collar tresse, the officer style silver cord is sewn to the outer collar. The Shoulder straps are the same as the NCO's except for the extra strip of tress(or cord) around the base of the strap. I will see if there are some pics I can post. The officer's head gear was authorized. Regards Paul
    17. That is a really cool photo! I can see these guys being tasked with manning captured utility facilities and getting them back up and running.
    18. It definitely looks familiar! I will have to hit the books on this one. I apologize for the delay in response! I will be back! Paul
