Let me fetch my Nuut al-Waagib al-?Askarii / Medal of Military Duty and reconfirm the size. Ribbon is easy: Blue with two red stripes (see, for example, http://www.omsa.org/photopost/showphoto.ph...ze=big&cat= or http://www.medals.lava.pl/eg/eg2.htm ). Actually 36 mm, medium blue moire with a thin red stripe toward each edge: 5 mm blue, 3 mm red, 20 mm blue, 3 mm red, 5 mm blue. I think the OMSA ribbon bank has some. Date is more difficult, though the hallmark (if present) can always help. This is the silver content mark. The dates are 1953 [CE]-1379 [AH], the date of creation (9 July 1953, actually more of a reformulation from the pre-revolutionary Medal for Devotion to Duty [founded 1920]). The era of the medal can be determined by the legend, and I think this is the United Arab Republic variety, 1959-71 (actually altered in 1973?). I hope you find this to be of use and to be a spur to your own research.

As I proceed to get rigorous translations/summaries of ALL the documents in this voluminous file, here is the latest 'spin' of the copy of his ORB recommendation (post #5, above). "EXCERPT from Order 209 of the 8 Turkestan Rifle Regiment dated 15 JUL 1920 #29, paragraph I, rifle unit. "I present a copy 1 Army Administrative Section Order 210 dated 6 JUL of this year. "On the basis of 1919 RVSR Order #51 excerpted from Order #2322 of this year, the following servicemen are awarded the Order of the Red Banner for their combat accomplishments: "II. Vatslav Vronislavovich Lavrinovich, Commander 9 Company, 209 Vitebsk Rifle Regiment "9 Company Commander (209 Regiment) Comrade Lavrinovich in combat near the village of Usbekovo on 15 June 1919 while on the right flank of the of the battalion?s sector, capably commanded the company, motivated the soldiers by his personal example and bravery, and repelled an enemy attack. During a second attack which the enemy initiated after a heavy artillery preparation, while risking his life he situated himself in the most dangerous sectors, resolutely and boldly holding the company?s defensive position. The enemy launched a third, desperate attack and advanced to within 40 paces. With a shout of 'Urrahh!' Nice, though more likely something real. Do you have a wider shot (with ribbon)? Reliable resources on legitimate, pre-revolutionary, Ethiopian ODM are very sparse.

Belgian Friend of Cuba Receives Medal of Friendship Havana, August 1 (acn) The Medal of Friendship, granted by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, was conferred on Tuesday to Belgian Katrien Demuynck. Cuban News Agency The medal was presented to the visitor by the president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), Sergio Corrieri, during a ceremony held at the ICAP headquarters in Havana. During the ceremony, Elio G?mez, vice president of the organization, praised the solidarity and the work of the Belgian friend of Cuba to spread the truth about the island's reality and against the US financial, commercial and economic blockade against the Cuban people. Gonz?lez, the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who unjustly remain in US prisons. As governments and regimes change, as they all do over time, vocabulary items like 'bandit' shift. I'd not advise holding one's breath for mammoth change in Cuba, though.
