    1. Dan, I can't see your avatar. All I see is a white box with some tiny, unreadable, writing in it.
    2. Robert, Because of the angle of the body in the photograph, it is kind of hard to tell exactly, but it looks to me like the deceased royal personage is King Friedrich August III of Saxony.
    3. Well, I'm not sure of the Bavarian shield with the N in the middle (unless it stands for Nymphenburg where he was born, or Neuschwanstein his most famous castle), but the dates on the medal are the dates of Ludwig II's birth and death.
    4. Dan, Just as an interesting aside, when I lived in West Berlin 1964-1965 with my brother this friend of mine and I would go on adventures where we'd get on a bus and just ride to the end of the line, walke around for a bit, and then ride the bus back home. I'd seen a HJ knife before because a friend of my brother's had a sizeable sword and dagger collection. We were walking around looking at shop windows. In one there was a brand new knife exactly like the HJ knife for sale..................except it had the Boy Scout emblem on the handle!
    5. Wild Card, you're killing me!!!! I don't think my heart can take much more Henry the Lions!!!! But don't stop!
    6. Dan, I know this is a bit , but............. Perhaps not everyone will agree with me, but as a former active duty person I say you should never feel embarrassed by any good thing you've done, and obviously you did good during your years of JROTC. It's strange what motivates young people and how quickly they can change. My eldest son was a total JROTC addict in high school. His school had Air Force JROTC. He was on the drill team, he rose up to Cadet Lt Col his senior year and was the deputy commander of cadets. He even joined the Civil Air Patrol cadet program and was doing that at the same time. He graduated with a full 3-year Air Force ROTC scholarship that covered his 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of college. He then decided he didn't want to go in the military, gave up the scholarship and now works as a fry cook in a restaurant.
    7. Okay, I don't own a single Henry the Lion medal, and probably never will. Now that Andreas has has totally ruined by day by displaying all that beauty I'll just post the nicest photo I have of a Henry the Lion. I've shared this picture before, it's from a fairly recent Hermann Historica auction.
    8. Rick, I honestly don't know, I'm very ignorant when it comes to these things, but could part of it be because those last 4 medals aren't the original ones that were on the bar?
    9. Well, they sure got that wrong! The crown prince was associated with the Prussian Leib Hussars Regiment No. 1 not the Brunswick Hussars No. 17.
    10. Beautiful photos, Christophe! Any chance of identifying the gentleman and his medals who's talking to the piper?
    11. Dan, Have you seen the 1813 Grand Cross Huesken has for sale? http://www.huesken.com/index.htm It's only 42,500 Euros!!!
    12. Wow, looks like the almost stole the original mold!!
    13. I have this miniature medal bar with a crowned medal, which most everyone has seen before. I also have a full sized crowned medal, but unfortunately, no photo.
    14. Wow! One of my two favorite Hohenzollern house orders! The Royal Prussian one and the Princely Hohenzollern house orders are among my favorites. I'll probably never, every be able to afford one, but I can't get enough of looking at them!
    15. In the USA worshipful masters are elected by the membership of the lodge. I would image it's the same in the UK, but I don't know that for a fact.
    16. I just found it on the Royal House of Yugoslavia's web site. It is the Commemorative Medal for the Albanian Campaign, or Albanian Retreat medal. It was instituted on 5 April 1920 by the Prince-Regent Aleksandar (Alexander), future King Aleksandar I. Here's a link to the web page: http://www.royalfamily.org/history/medals10.htm
    17. Based on the small portion of the heraldic shield that you can see on the chest of the double-headed eagle, I'd say it from the Kingdom of Serbia/Yugoslavia. The obverse looks like King Peter II, but he wasn't king until WW2 era. The medal has 1915 on the back, so perhaps that's Crown Prince Alexander who was regent from 1916 until 1921. Other than that, I have no idea what it is. Sorry.
    18. Thanks, Thomas. These two coats must be the much lighter blue versions then.
    19. I'm with Rick, it's absolutely fantastic! This isn't really my field of interest, but any collecting that keeps articles belonging to one person together and helps to keep that person's deeds alive is a great thing!
    20. Yeah. He's kind of a sad character though, on 21 April 1918 the reigning Herzog von Anhalt dies and Prinz Eduard becomes Eduard Herzog von Anhalt. Then he goes and dies on 13 September 1918! Pretty short reign (although not as short as his successor who only reigned from September to November 1918!!!)
    21. Some of you know I collect postcards of Imperial German royalty. I was looking at some of my cards today and I noticed that I have two where the dress uniform they are wearing in obviously not dunkleblau, it's something much lighter. Is this some type of feldgrau parade dress uniform or what? Here are the two photos:
