    1. Chris,

      A new Erkennungsmarke. :)

    2. Well, you can't go by casualties, because even poor performing units could have high casualties. I think you can go by where a unit was sent and what tasks they were required to carry out. The naval ground forces had a fairly quiet front compared to many others. They never saw Verdun. They never went to the mountains, to Italy, to Romania, to any of the famous battles. No, I think they are far from the best unit in the German army.
    3. Hallo Stefan, Der Waffenrock ist ein M1907/13. Es hat vereinfacht Schulterklappen . Es gab keine M1910 Mannschaftenrock. MfG, Chip
    4. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have. Best regards, Chip
    5. Technische Betriebs Batl. München (B). None of the examples shown in Kraus have this extra letter "B", so the meaning at this time is unknown. Chip
    6. Hey Dante, Did you sell your house and move? If you have, let's see those field gray straps you promised. Chip
    7. Yes, super photo! Only the second one I have seen of these badges being worn. It appears that the number on the badge is "5", so if it is indeed Jngolstadt, it would be identical to the badge I showed above. The fifth company was assigned to the Geschützgießerei und Geschoßfabrik. I have come across a previously unknown example that I will post later today. Chip
    8. Jeff, At that price I can't fault you for passing, especially if you already have most of the ones that would have been worn in WWI. There would only be three there that I would really want to complete my NCO wartime set. At over $400 each, including the more common Prussian one, the set is only for someone with cash to burn. Chip
    9. OMG! You passed on that! They must have been asking a fortune for it. There are some obsolete state knots there that one never sees, not to mention the Mecklenburg, Hessen and Reichs examples. Thanks for showing this. I've only seen some of them as drawings. Very nice indeed. Did you get a chance to confirm that they were all real (wooden ball, etc.)? Chip
    10. Hi Andy,

Did you notice the pair of M15 FAR.43 enlisted man's straps for sale here?

That's what friends are for. :)

    11. Jeff, If all you are missing from the gray strap company set is one, you have done very well. Of my examples, only five have that. Chip
    12. Hello Marcin,

I have given you some basic identifications on your shoulder straps. All have some value. There are no rare ones in the group and there are some that have very little collector value. The enlisted cyphered ones sell on German Ebay for about 35 Euro each. The officer's cyphered boards can sell for up to 100 Euro, the Hessen one here falling into that category. The 123 Grenadier, typically less. If you sell them as a group, I think you will get less money, but you would get rid of the uninteresting ones that might not sell on their own. I hope this helps.

    13. Jeff, I'm just saying that the private purchase ones are not as valuable as the issue ones. People ask all sorts of prices...so, I guess what I meant was that personally, I would not pay more than $50-$60 Dollars for a private purchase one (actually, I'd pay nothing, because I wouldn't buy one).
    14. A nice issue one goes for anywhere from about $65-$135 depending on the vendor. NCOs, Kapitulanten and Jäger bring more. I saw a fairly rare issue Hessen NCO sell for about 300 Euro. Personally, I wouldn't give over $75 for an private purchase one and would rather it would be more like $50-$60. Of course, just my personal opinions. Chip
    15. It's fairly easy. Issue ones are all wool, do not use any cord in their construction, have shorter tassles, larger fuzzy crowns and on the whole, just look different. Chip
    16. I've got 27 of them. All of the issue variety. Each of yours are private purchase types.
    17. Nice photo! I really like these closer portraits. You get to look into the soldiers eyes and can sometimes get a idea of what they might be feeling. I like the hardware too! Chip
    18. Sweet! Having the document with the story and the photo brings his deed to life again. Thanks for showing it. Chip
