    1. Looking at this auction and those few German orders for some days know I would like to make everybody interested in this aware of the following details: a) Prussian Red Eagle Order-3rd Class w/Crown & Swords. This piece was definetly a regular Red Eagle Order with Crown. Somebody attached the swords after the fact. There is a nice detailed picture of the one swords whowing the glue that holds it in place. This picture shows also the former mounting of the center medaillion into the cross. b) Prussian Order of the Royal Hohenzollern Houseorder with Swords Please be aware that there were only 16 pieces awarded. The piece in the auction does not have real Wagner made swords. It looks to me that they are not coined. This can be seen when looking closely at the hilts of the swords.
    2. ...he was the lucky one. I am telling you, big show, but nothing good imperial to buy. At least no enamel.
    3. Certainly a mixed batch.....and some have the swords even glued into the cross body.
    4. ...noy always, silver gilt exists as well. With those golden one we mainly see two types. The 3 leaf cluster and the one show above. Always has a little hohle hidding under the ribbon wire.
    5. Actually, the LS medal is actual silver the Micheal medal cooper bronze, just like the real thing. I believe these are just unfinished examples.
    6. By accident I stumbled over those following two medals. The bronze merit medal of the Bavarian St.Michael Order as well as the Saxon Lifesavingsmedal in silver. Quite neat to see those unfinished pieces. Coined but not cut. Enjoy. [attachmentid=27936]
    7. I think so. I can see some that I bought on ebay and the pricing is correct. Interesting page. I see, I missed a few
    8. ...and to answer the question finally: awarded the RAO4X then RAO3 had swords on ring and bow as a sign that he: a) had the swords in the 4th class (Swords on Ring) b) had a lower grade of the order (bow) He then must have gotten the 2nd class with oak leaf (proof of 3rd and 4th class) and swords (for bravery) on the 3 times white and 2 times black striped ribbon. The special ribbon is the sign for the swords he was awarded for his 4th class and replaces the swords on ring. You may also read: The Red Eagle Order third class with bow and swords on the two times black- and three times white striped ribbon ....stripes instead of swords on ring. The crown order above would be an award of the swords to an existing 3rd class with swords on ring. THe ribbon in this case would change, too. Yet those rules did change..... You see, very easy
    9. By the way, here is one of the impossible exmaples. Not made by Wagner, but Godet for a medal bar. Amazingly with a full lenght of that imposible to find ribbon: [attachmentid=26417]
    10. I strongly agree with Wild Card's observation. We are dealing here with secondary sources and worse. The opus magnum (I don't even own it) as well as catalogue are nice little starting points but have unfortunatelly many mistakes.
    11. don't worry, I happen to have all the rules and regulations. If there is ever a questions: email me.
    12. I was just made aware that there is a question on my favorite topic. The answer is rather simple: With the Red Eagle Order everything is possible. Well, there are the official rules of when and how certain attachements could be added to the order, but then the kings also awarded after their liking. Also, the rules changed over time and make it even more confusing. Good point is the remark about: "Maybe just for foreigners???" and indeed, the rules for forgeiners are different as well as changed often. I do recommand to get all sets of statues and additions
    13. What is his name? If I may ask? I should be able to find him in the regiments history!
    14. The medal is made from Dukatengold, which is rather soft. to ensure that the medal did not fall out of its frame a much harder gold with high non-gold content (Silver) was used as frame material. This explains why the frame and agraffe looks always a bit dirty. [attachmentid=25560]
