Sincere sympathy. Mervyn

I have to agree with Nick - most people are just themselves. The main problem with the web
is that you rarely get to know in person the ones from overseas.
If you're a 'leading light' - does that mean you are allowed to carry the collection plate............

Nick - this is a great thing for GMIC and I am sure will be treasured by Members.
The price is reasonable - people should order now as I am sure stocks are limited.

As always Brian - a very interesting article. Certainly sets the scene for a
history of old lanterns. I wilkl do my best to support you with a few illustrations.0 -
Nick - I think we all owe you a big debt of gratitude - to do all of this on
your own is a major undertaking. Plus, of course, we have to consider the
very high costs of the conversion.
With regard to the Photo Comp.. - I work it out that it was suspended for
three days. I don't think anyone will be upset if I extend it to SUNDAY 18th..
From all members who won't write - thankyou. Mervyn0 -
Chuck - you will be most welcome to submit the albums as an entry - and in which case you will
be able to take pictures out to show.
Brett - I wioll ask Nick if he can explain the problem to you. Mervyn0 -
Hello Brabant. This would really be better on our British Medal Forum - you
are more likely to get responses and info. from Members.
I will leave you to re-post - and will then delete this one. Mervyn0 -
Hi Brian. This is what collecting is all about. However, I do feel sorry for Linda
being dragged around in the rain. I hope you bought her something nice ?
Your new pistol is a very fine example of a top British gunmaker's work. Well worth
the pain and the rain. Best wishes Mervyn0 -
Really Brian - at your age you should be in front of a fire - with your cocoa !
I shall now be looking forward to the second part. Mervyn0 -
Good one Brian - you've struck a chord with older members. Mervyn

If Graham was from the East End - did you check your wallet after he held you back ? !
(Just joking..............)
Interesting article - and oh ! so true.0 -
Greg - I didn't think any Communist movement still existed in the US - I thought
McCarthy purged everything ?
South Africa has a very strong black communist party - they are in partnership with
the ANC and are presently having some serious 'partnership' fights.
The communist movement died in the UK in the period after the war when the last
communist MP died. He was only there because his electorate were fond of him.
The Labour party suddenly inherited all of the far left MP's and they are still running
the place.
I remember years ago, talking to a friend in the Met. Special Branch. He said the
experts knew that the left wing had given themselves three generations to take over
teachers - and through them the schools and universities.
I would say that their plans have been fairly succesful. In fact, I would say that at present it is
a race to see which group of extremists can destroy the Country first.0 -
Michael - great to see your new blog - your sense of humour shows
through. Although as I have never met you - I have to assume that !
Will look forward to further entries. Mervyn0 -
Some good background information Brian, that will help new collectors.
Just as well Africa never had these medals - they would all have the Gold one.............0 -
Lee - I am very pleased that you have found your answer. I suggest you continue
with the family research and see if any other medals turn-up within the family.
I think then you can make your post under British Medals - we will be pleased to
see you there. Meanwhile - join-in on some of the posts. Mervyn0 -
Lee - usually the Chairman will check out these applications. The problem that
I see with this is that it is not really a Blog entry.
Where do you think the medallios originated from - if it is the US, then it would be better
to post on their site ? With the year clasps in English it would seem that they are British or US.
I think it would be a good blog entry if you told the story of how you came to have-it - the
searching that has been done and how you have come to GMIC in 'desperation.'
See if you can turn it into a blog and come back to me. Mervyn Mitton0 -
Tracy - pleased to see you are still ' hanging in there' . Don't forget we are
always here to help you. Post under British Badges.
These are some interesting little photos. I think HMAS Perth was a light cruiser -
we must hope some one can look it up. The burning shape looks like part
of an aircraft - and the Oerlikon quick firing guns might have been responsible ?
The other two pictures will be of interest to our German members.
Under Brit. Badges - your original post - I have added a miniature Fairburn Sykes
fighting knife. First one I have seen.
Best wishes. Mervyn0 -
I thought I had added a comment - apparantly not !
This sort of research Brian, is invaluable for a Forum of GMIC's status.
It gives members' ideas on what is worth collecting and delves into fields
away from the standard.
I hope members' are taking the trouble to read - very few forums go into
subject matter like this. Mervyn0 -
Greg - you deserved it - you have done a lot for GMIC - I wear one
of your designs as a lapel pin ! Mervyn0 -
Demir - congratulations on this excellent research book. A lot of work
and you can be proud..
You must also post this on the Turkish site - however, I hope you get a good
response from this site. Mervyn0 -
Greg - now, that was all a surprise. Good reading and I admire your tenacity
in following your goals. You should have mentioned Logo Designer for GMIC.
Anyway - A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
Mervyn0 -
Larry - the blog secton is not really suitable for a selling message.
Further down the Forum is our dedicated For Sale section. Re-Post
there and thry to add a picture. Any problems let us know. Mervyn0 -
Brian - I'm sorry our blogs clashed. However, they are quite different in content
and whilst mine is a story - yours is advice of the first quality for our members.
People tend to become stuck in a 'rut' when it comes to collecting fields - and as
you so clearly show, there are many new adventures to consider when looking for new
subjects.
Also, by looking for not so well known interests, the chances are that they could be
cheaper then the more common ones. I suspect that you will keep finding new
ideas for our Members and look forward to reading them . Mervyn0 -
Please give her our fond regards - and tell her she's got work to do in the kitchen !
Seriously though, that is a nasty thing to happen and I hope she makes as quick
a recovery as possible. Mervyn0
