    1. Hello Anyone else have a view on this bar ? In particular, I am concerned by the lack of 'veins' on the wings. Does anyone know of any maker who omitted the veins on 2nd pattern bars? All comments and observations warmly welcomed. Many thanks.
    2. Hello Thanks for that Joe. It's probably the photos, but the back is actually smooth. Under a 10x loop it looks pretty similar to my known original bars. The bits that appear to be pitting or rough are where there is some patina on the item. This is one of the things that is puzzling me with this one. Overall it doesn't appear to be a cast copy - the dimensions etc are correct, and 'in hand' it does look a lot better than in these photos. If I get chance I'll do some more shots in natural daylight. In the mean time, and I probably should have done this earlier given it's dark here, here are some scans of the piece.
    3. Hello Here are a couple more shots of it taken without flash, but under a normal indoor lightbulb - hence the golden cast to the item.
    4. Hello I have just received this bar to the iron cross 1st class and would like opinions and comments on it. I can't match it to any known makers. Equally it doesn't appear to match any known fakes. Size wise it is virtually identical to my Deumer made EK1 bar. Wing tip to wing tip it measures 45.22mm and in height, (bottom of the date trapezium to the top of the eagles head), it measures 30.30mm. It is the same thickness as my L/11 Deumer EK1 bar at around 1.86mm. Visually, 'in the hand', there is nothing immediately jumping out at me which says fake, and the overall quality of the bar appears to be good. Sorry that the photos have been taken with flash, but it's dark here now. Please let me know your opinions and comments on this piece as to it's originality or otherwise. Many thanks in advance.
    5. Hello Whilst field made EKs do come up very occasionally, this is not one of them. If this were a field made piece it would never carry an 'L' mark. L/19 is the marking for Ferdinand Hoffstatter of Bonn. I'm now going to stick my neck out on this one and say that whilst I agree that this cross looks extremely poor, I actually think it is a genuine piece, which may have been taken apart, or for some other reason split open and then re-assembled . The beaded rim matches up to known original examples, as do the date numerals, swastika and the 'L/19' mark itself. An extremely poor conditioned item, and one which could well have been opened up and put back together, but, in my opinion, a genuine one.
    6. Hello As with Doc, I'm no expert on these but I like it. The detail on it is sharp and crisp, and it looks like a decent quality item. In my opinion this looks as it should. I think it's ok.
    7. Hello It's probably just the angle of the photo playing tricks with my eyes, but is the EK2 a Schinkle type ?
    8. Hello What superb workmanship. From the first picture I'd have never guessed it was a minature - and obviously I didn't !!
    9. Hello I've only just come across this thread. A re-worked first class KVK perhaps ?
    10. Hello I only have one pilots badge and don't know a great deal about these, but from the ones I have seen that looks like a very nice, original example. Most of the ones I have seen from this maker tend not to be in such good condition or so nice in appearance as this one. Thanks for showing it.
    11. Hello Rod Is this the picture from Saxonia Militaria that you refer to ? If so, I hope it helps.
    12. Hello I thought that's what Tony and his cronies were already doing !!
    13. Hello From all that has been discussed in this thread, I assume I'd be correct in concluding that all Godet oaks / oaks and swords should be viewed sceptically and are best avoided - unless accompanied by an iron clad provenance. A fascinating thread and discussion. Thank you all for the information and education.
    14. Hello I have no idea who the manufacturer is, but it looks like a good, original WW1 EK to me.
    15. Hello A beautiful EK Micha, and from the little glimpse of, a very nice case as well.
    16. Hello I have just received these two 57 versions of the DKiG. One is in it's case. Both have the correct enamelled red rings rather than the painted rings that can be found on some of these. First up the cased one. As usual, any comments or observations welcomed.
    17. Hello When you say information on the makers and L marks, what exactly do you have in mind ?
