Hi gents, I think it´s time to post again some rare Lippe-Detmold stuff... Here is a new item in my collection., it´s are rare medalbar from Lippe-Demold, showing - medal for the campaign 1866 Lippe-Detmold (awarded 988 times, mostly by members of the "Lippisches Füsilier-Bataillon" - Prussian medal for 1866 "Königgrätz" - Centenarmedal Prussia For me it´s the first time to see this medal on a medalbar, I have only some pictures of it (and a single medal, which perfectly fit on this bar). And here are the mentioned pictures: The first one shows the Major and commander of the "Füsiliere Lippe-Detmold" Herrmann Kellner II. I have all of his documents, which I will show later on. He awarded "his" soldiers with this medal, officers like him got the medal directly from the prince Leopold Lippe-Detmold. The second one shows a unknown officer. I hope you like it :-) Best regards Roman

Ok, it seems to be too complicated...I will solve: Kellner II received the order of the crown 3rd class with swords on 20th September 1866. The award document doesn´t state something special, but in connection with the photo of his medalbar, this award becomes very special and extremly rare. Kellner II received the Prussian order of the crown at the blue ribbon for foreigners and not at the black-white striped Prussian war-ribbon. And this is consequently correct, because in 1866 Kellner was from the Prussian point of view still a foreigner, until the Lippe-Detmold army was integrated in October 1867 into the Prussian army :-) Best regards Roman

There is a small, but interesting detail on this 3.class piece: For sure this award was made by Carl, Büsch, Hannover, who produced almost all early golden pieces. Normally the medaillons are fixed with one diagonal rounded pin (I can compare with a early 4th class and 2nd class in my collection). But this pieces has four squared "pins" between the arms of the cross (see photo). I assume that this piece was returned and again awarded (maybe Büsch changed also the medaillon on the back from "LA" to "L") and that this piece was a former award with swords! It is just a theory, but I haven´t ever seen this mounting before... Regards Roman

Hi gents, it took me some time, but today I was able to add this little fellow to my collection: The medalbar belongs to Johann Friedrich Lappe, born in Mettmann on 31st May 1845, died in Halle on 19th December 1928 . Friedrich Lappe was pastor and superindentant in Bielefeld and also pastor of the ruling family in Lippe-Detmold. In Bielefeld he planned the Johannis-church, in Detmold he held the funeral oration of princess Pauline. On the medalbar you see: - red eagle order 4th class (unmarked) - war aid cross Prussia - Lippe-Detmold house order 3rd class in gold ( Lappe got the award on 30th May 1909 as No. 380 of the list. (In total it was awarded 372 times.) - Lippe-Detmold Grafregenten Ernst medal 1897 (not in the award list, but listed in the Ordensalmanach 1908) - Lippe-Detmold Lawsuit-medal 1905 ( No. 97 of the list, 176 awards in total) Lappe also got the 4th class of the Lippe-Detmold houseorder Div. A on 13rd January 1898, but he had to return it after awarding the 3rd class. The photo shows Friedrich Lappe in 1900 (according to the notes on the back).

I did a small check already on yesterday, but it isn´t as easy as it looks like. There are no rolls for the Schaumburg award and there are different possibilities for the Hausorden award, e.g. 4th class, but also silver or golden merit cross. I would consider the following facts: The person was born after 1880, due to missing Centenar medal and active participation in WW 1. He was from the principal Lippe-Detmold. But the ribbon in the middle (white-red) drives me crazy...I would consider it as "Medaille für deutsche Volkspflege" from 1939, does anybody agree? If this is correct, the identification might get really difficult, because the Hausorden was awarded after 1918, too. But I don´t have these rolls. Regards Roman

Ok, a small hint might be necessary... Hermann Kellner II retired in December 1867, after the Lippische Füsiliere were integrated in the Prussian army (6. Westf. Infanterie-Regiment No. 55) in summer 1867. The riddle is related to the rewards, shown on the picture, which were awarded on the following dates: - order of the crown 3rd class with swords on 20th September 1866 - military merit medal on 30th March 1863 - long service cross for 25 years Lippe-Detmold on 19th April 1866 - war memorial medal 1866 Lippe-Detmold at the end of 1866 (exact date unknown)

Hi David, very good question, the answer contains the solution of this small riddle. Hermann Kellner II became "Hauptmann und Kampanie-Chef" on 10th May 1859. On 15th August 1866 prince Leopold of Lippe-Detmold promoted him to "Major und Kommandeur "Unseres Kontingents" (=Fürstl. Lippisches Füsilier-Batallion). Kellner II took over this position from the Major and former Kommandeur Carl Rohdewald, who was killed on 10th July 1866 during the battle in Kissingen. Attached you see both promotion documents ("Patent zum Hauptmann" and "Patent zum Major"). Can you solve now the question related to his photo? Hi gents, for those, who haven´t seen my thread in a German forum, I have a small riddle for you, which might be tricky to solve. The pictures below are showing Hermann Kellner II, "Major and Bataillonskommandeur of the Lippische Füsiliere". The picture was taken between 1866 and 1867. On his medalbar your can find the following awards: - Order of the Crown 3rd class with swords Prussia - Military merit medal (w/o swords) Lippe-Detmold - Long service cross for 25 years Lippe-Detmold (!!!) - war memorial medal 1866 Lippe-Detmold Kellner II wears on this picture an uniform from Lippe-Detmold. But what detail makes this picture so interesting? You probably need some of the given information to solve this small riddle. I hope you like it :-) Regards Roman ' alt='' class='ipsImage' width="550px" height="750px">"> ' alt='' class='ipsImage' width="550px" height="750px"> ' alt='' class='ipsImage' >

Hi gents, I would like to show you my newest purchase. Although the awards are quite typical for a Lippe soldier, the group is quite rare. The mechanic Fritz Neese from Bad Meinberg / Lippe was Flugzeugführer-Unteroffizier in the "Flieger-Abteilung A(rtillery) No. 238". There were only a very few soldiers from Lippe becoming a pilot in WW1 (most probably not more than ten), which makes this small group quite unique. So far I was not able to find any additional information on him, maybe somebody can help ? Best regards Roman

Hi gents, something is still missing...even on the pictures :-) He also got the honor cross for heroic deeds Lippe-Detmold, I had the original receipt in my hands during one of my visits at the archive in Detmold. Of course, it was a "complimentary" award, like the one for Wilhelm II. etc., maybe never worn. Best regards Roman
