EK 1914 Was it possible?
gregM replied to Chris Boonzaier's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
I agree that the awarding of a EK for bravery to a soldier who died during the act of that bravery would be a great moral booster and propaganda tool. BUT on the other hand. Didn't Prussion law require that the higher orders, PLMs, Eagle orders, ect. be turned back in after the death of the reciepient? Wouldn't that indicate they weren't to concerend about posthomous awards. Or was it a case of conserving the gold and silver it took to make the awards? Greg -
EK 1914 1914 EK2 on a 'Ladies Bow'
gregM replied to DavidM's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Nice ribbon bow crosses Here is my example. I was told when I bought it that this was a "Wedding bow". for were on a tux at a wedding or some other formal occassion. The Ladies bow would have swallow tail cut ends of the ribbon. [attachmentid=37728] -
Here are a couple of small ones. The bigger one on the right is 8.8mm tall. The combo on the left is 15.3mm tall with the spange being only 6.2mm tall. [attachmentid=37626]

EK 1870 1870 EK I FRENCH EBAY.
gregM replied to Kev in Deva's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
First let me say that I am no expert especially compared to some of our members. But this cross is just BAD. The first thing that jumps out at me is the mm. I have never seen a DESCHERSOHN marked cross that was good. There might be some but I have NEVER seen one. Next was the pin. Big clunky looking copy of a third reich style pin. Another thing is the overall quality of the piece. Look at the details of the core. The date, "W", crown all very low relief. Almost like the thin sheet stamped EKs made during the 1920s-30s. The 1870 crosses "for the most part" were some of the better detailed crosses ever made. I would have probably passed on this cross without ever seeing the reverse side. and lastly--when a deal seems to good to be true, it usually is. A 1870 EK1 is a fairly uncommon bird. Everyone would like to find one for 110 Euro but that just does not happen--- at least to me. Thats my 2 cents worth. Anyone else, please feel free to join in conversation. Greg -

Great sellection of mini EKs Dan- I really like the mini EK2 on the ribbon. I love Imperial minis and pick them up when I can. Here is a scan of some of my mini EKs. My favorites would have to be the 22mm EK1 screwback and the 1870 Ek2 with ribbon. [attachmentid=35800]

Hi Guys, I just picked this up this afternoon. I do not want to try to bend the pins to unmount it from the ribbon but it appears to be unmarked. To me it looks and feels good but I have been fooled before. I did notice the round Os in the 9s. I know some round 9s are bad but do not know if all are. Thanks very much for any help. regards Greg [attachmentid=35747]

EK 1914 1914 "935" with blued sheetmetal core
gregM replied to Motorhead's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
This is my blued EK2. Not in the best condition. It has some rust forming on the blued core. If anyone has a suggestion on cleaning up the rust please let me know. Would a light coat of wd40 hurt the blueing? [attachmentid=35318]
