    1. Any updates on the flatback vs. mirror reverse situation? The reason I ask is I like these awards and may aquire one.
    2. Thanks for the heads up on this. I've been wondering about this seller...
    3. Thank you Gentlemen. I'm very new to Mongolian ODMs but the quality does seem to indicate Soviet manufacture of the screwback orders. I wonder if the Mongolian gov't placed large orders for these awards at one point in, say, the early 50s and then slowly awarded them until at some point they were either all awarded or they (the Mongol gov't) got their own mint up and running (where they implemented the pinback attachment)?
    4. Could I get an approximate award date of my 3.1 #4630 please? My guess is 1955 +/- 10 years. I hope it can be narrowed down some. BTW, these were manufactured in Mongolia, correct? In Ulaanbaatar? Was there a single Mongolian State mint back in the '50s and '60s?
    5. Are we getting any closer to getting some rough dates for when these were awarded? I'd like to get an approximation for my T1 V2 #1753. Right now I'm guessing 1960, plus or minus 5 years. I've got my MoC down to '55 +/-3 and my HLM to '54 +/-2 No clue on my Polar Star... Thanks!
    6. ODMs comprise a major portion of my discrentionary income spending. I'm very glad there's not a "medal tax"!
    7. Thanks JC! As an aside, after some searching last night I think I found some weights on Yuri's(?) site. Being in the Russian language it's a bit hard to decipher but it seems he includes size and weight there. And as Ed said elsewhere with all the variations and subvariations there can be discrepencies. But thanks so much for your help.
    8. Thanks Ed and JC. That was the info I needed. Basically just weights with which to compare other orders by (OMM, ORBL &c)
    9. If anyone has a scale handy could they post some weights on these please? (I have to get a scale...)
    10. Anyone have a weight on any of these, specifically a T1V2 please? Thanks.
    11. I see this word a lot in reference to Eastern Euro countries. What exactly does "emission" mean please?
    12. One person's display, but certainly not one person's awards.
    13. Here's one of my framed displays. It consists of a frame purchased at Michael's (an American craft store). What I like most about it is the fact that the frame is hinged, so I can take it off the wall and open it to photgraph items or fondle my collection. Here's a link to how I made this: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5600 I hope links to other forums are OK. If not I'll remove it immediately.
    14. Just out of curiosity why was the OotPS awarded? Was it purely civil? Or military? Or both? Or neither? What Soviet order (or medal) would it correspond to, roughly? Thanks,
    15. http://www.netdialogue.com/yy/Asia/Mongolia/MongoliaMain.htm I've found this site very helpful: http://www.netdialogue.com/yy/Asia/Mongolia/MongoliaMain.htm
    16. Is there any documented, or even anecdotal, history of sword play in the Second World War? While I suspect there was some cossaks swinging steel, and the Japanese Army used blades with some notoriety has anyone ever heard of an actual sword being used in combat in WWII, especially on the Western Front? Since the British and the German officer corp were for the most part required to have a sword for dress situations I have to assume that at one point somebody must have unsheathed a blade during the heat of battle. Anyone ever heard of that? Just curious. Thanks so much,
    17. I'm sorry I can't help with identification but I do know that I like that group. Very pretty.
    18. You're confident on that Sevastopol or not?? If not please post a better scan of the medal itself, front and back please.
    19. Well "gunlayer" is, I think, the man who actaully aimed (or pointed) the weapon. Or perhaps the loader. It might depend on translation. In any event I'd guess he was a specific part of a mortar team. Or, when you put it the terms of lay-er and lay-ee a whole different explanation come to mind. But that's for a different thread.
    20. What a long strange trip.....from Siberia to Florida and then to Gerd in Germany. Some ORBs get around it seems. Congrats Gerd! And a Lenin holder no less.
    21. Gentlemen (and Ladies), There's an internet database started for either serial numbers wanted or serial numbers already in one's collection. Info here: "The missing orders database is finally ready, all are welcome to see and/or use it here: http://www.soviet-screwbacks.com, just click on "Orders Database" button on the left hand side of the main page. It functions in both English and Russian languages." I highly recommend reading "Terms of Usage" first, to get familiar with the concept.
