Reviving an old topic: I found these images on ebay today. It's the central medallion of a 5-torch OB&U. Pretty heavily damaged and a sloppy attempted repair job. Behold: I also found this image in my Yugo OB&U folder that I may have shared earlier.

Soviet labor awards are very interesting to me. Lots of great designs. I have 6 display centered around labor awards, like farming, mining, railways etc.

Love the display with the 57er awards. I have one myself but not quite as nice.

Nice collection! It would be awesome to 'collect them all' but they are not cheap.

I can't tell. If there are other ones and sevens from the same engraver that would help. Nice PS BTW.

Welcome. In addition to the others already mentioned Shishkov and Muzalevsky's 'Orders and Medals of the USSR' is a nice, 2 volume set. I also recommend Paul Schmitt's 'Echoes of War'. Both are helpful for dating serial numbers in addition to the usual ID-ing of variations and such.

The only thing that comes to mind immediately is acetone. I'm pretty sure that would remove the ugly red paint where the enamel was lost. But I doubt it would touch that gold plating. If there's a good jewelry repair place near your town you might ask them for opinions.

That plating is hideous as is the enamel "repair" but yeah, it looks like a legit OG3. Do you own it or are going to buy it with the intention of restoring it? That would be interesting to watch.

Looks good. According to the 'Soviet Screwbacks' website it's a T4V6.2. And according to Schmitt's 'Echoes of War' it's award date could be anywhere from (late) 1942 to (earlier) 1944.

Non-coms certainly were awarded RKs although not in great numbers. I'd suspect schutze's with the prerequisite EK 1&2 got a promotion and then a RK.

I would say the Soviet Order of Glory 1st Class is closest as far as number awarded goes. The UK Victoria Cross was awarded well less than 1,000 times during WW2, The US Medal of Honor was awarded 472 times in that conflict, and the German Knights Cross with Oak Leaves 882 times. The Soviet OG1 was awarded 2,620 times.

Anybody recognize the meaning of the stamping in the lower right that seems to spell 'КИРОВСКИЙ РАЙВО'? КИРОВСКИЙ translates to Kirovsky so a regional thing? None of my medal or battle-participation docs have a 'counter-stamp' like that.

Yeah, social media has ruined this hobby as well! (Kinda kidding) I think social media attracts fringe collectors, whereas the more dedicated stay focused on forums. And the funny thing is, at least on the few SM sites I watch the big 3 forums(this one, GMIC,& WPAF) are always mentioned when it comes to finding answers.

Yeah, sad. I pop by a few times a month to see if there's anything new.... I thought I'd hooked a guy on one of the militaria forums on reddit. Made a nice imgur album about Yugo awards after he asked me for some details. And, then like usual, no reply at all. Ah well, more for us I guess?
