    1. Dear Gents, Again I'm lost in the jungle of Belgian non-official medals. Is there anyone who can ID this medal? with kind regards, Jef
    2. Hello Tom, We are learning every day.... Thank you for posting that link. kind regards, Jef
    3. Dear Rittmeister, Thank you for the scan of your medal. Beautiful piece, I must say. I agree these medals must have been sold as fund raisers and does not have any official character. But I must add French as well as British ( or made for UK residents) pieces exists. And you can find "war" as well as "post-war" items. kind regards, Jef
    4. Hello again Rittmeister, Your medal also might be a patriotic medal. I enclosed some examples. I remember as child, relatives, veterans of the Great War wore such patriotic medals on the chain of their pocket watch. Jef
    5. Hello Rittmeister, I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but I'm interested in that kind of medals. Have some of those medals myself and so far, wasn't able to find any catalogues nor other information. Does your medal has a ribbon or is it a medal with an eyelet. As an example I enclosed a religious medal with ribbon. A scan of your medal would be helpful. Jef
    6. Hello Fanatic6, Thank you for posting this breadbag. Although I saw many Belgian breadbags before, I never saw one like this with a net or string bag. The stamp seems authentic and the bag seem professionally made. I only can recommend you this Belgian website: http://www.freewebs.com/abl1940/uitrustingwebbing.htm .The website is written in Dutch, but "Broodzak" means breadbag, and you will be able to see several models. With kind regards, Jef
    7. Hello again Tony, Think this also might help you to restore the grenade. with kind regards from Flanders, Jef
    8. Hello Tony, I have put the fuze of my grenade on the scanner, in this way you can compare. Jef
    9. Nice piece, Roeland. But I'm afraid the front is showing Leopold II. Was this medal meant for civilians, politicians? Kind regards, Jef
    10. Hello Peter, In my book : Military " Sweetheart" Brooches, written by K.W. Jarmin I saw a brooch almost similar to yours. When I look to info about n? 114 I can read: Silver. Pilots Wings. Translucent Enamelling. There are various types of Pilots Wings in Silver and normal enamelling. Also in Basemetal and enamel. The approx. value is 12? ( but I have to add, this publication is from 1981) With kind regards from Flanders, Jef
    11. Hello Hardy, Thank you for offering help, but meanwhile I found everything I need. With kind regards from Flanders, Jef

      French Wound insignia

Hello Wilco, I believe I posted this ribbon on another occasion.... kind regards, Jef
    13. Hello Scott, I think it's a bayonet for the French M 1892 Mousqueton ( Berthier). Have a similar one....as rusty as yours, but with a rather clean blade. The scabbard must have protected the blade from rust, I guess. Concerning the grips, I think someone tried to restore the bayonet and put some (new)wooden grips on the bayonet with glue. Normally the grips are fastened with two grip securing bolts. Kind regards, Jef
    14. "German Military Fighting knives 1914-1945 "(G. A. Hughes)is still on front of me. Needed for a post early this evening. I' afraid it only shows one item, but there is an appendix with makers of fighting knives in common. If you want me to, I'll post it. Kind regards, Jef
    15. And also found another similar one. Best regards, Jef
    16. Hello Tony, According to my " German Military Fighting knives '14/'45 ( By Gordon A. Hughes, 1992), I made some scans. Maybe you can check the measures. Jef
    17. Nice photographs, Rick. German soldiers were not the only ones who appreciated a glass of beer. This pic came from a familyalbum of a Belgian WWI nurse. Hope these drinking Belgian soldiers match your thread. Jef
    18. Thank you Rick. You might be right. Although I don't have any doubts about the authenticity of the medals itself, there are two holes unused. So this bar-base is definitely meant for 4 medals. When i look with a strong magnifying-glass ( a type to look at jewels), I see something happened there. The two tabs of the EK are brass, the other medals have ( rusty) iron tabs with a little damage. But I cannot find any scratch or colour difference around the non-used holes. There is a mark under the catch: DRP. What does this mean? thank you for your advice, Jef
    19. Thank you again, Kev. It seems you always are the first to answer... At least it's not a tourist medal like my previous question. with kind regards from Flanders, Jef
    20. Hello Tom Y and Vtwin Vince, Actually I never saw this medal before. And do you keep, display the medal together with your other awards, or do you wear the medal when you are going to a carnaval party? It seems I'm fooled That will be the reason why it was a cheap one. ...Silly me, I was thinking I was doing a bargain. Anyway, thank you so much for your answer. Kind regards, Jef
