    1. Hi Torsten, Far as I know there are no such restrictions here like on many other forums. We're all here to learn and to share info so this fits right in. Only problem is that members like myself who have not joined WAF cannot see the pictures in the post. But very much appreciate your posting this and I know at least some of us will be able to see the pics as well. But alot can still be learned from the thread. Thanks, Dan
    2. Hi Barry, Many thanks! And also, and most importantly... thank you for your service! Even with the dangers involved I envy you. I was on the Lexington for a cruise and it was one of the high points of my life. I so wanted to serve as an officer in carriers. But you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. Long story short I was involved in a hit and run during break from college and ended up with a concussion, back and neck injuries that basically put the kybosh on my career plans. All because a teen who'd just graduated decided to drink some beer and "borrow" his mom's car. But I still love the service, especially the navy and live the life vicariously through my hobby, my studies and tons of documentaries and such. Just met up with a gentleman today who works for the local power company who was out to advise us on different heating systems. Turns out he was on the Lady Lex when I was on my cruise! He was a green shirt up on the flight deck. I showed him my pics and a few pieces I still have from my trip and we shared some memories. It was great. He's the first vet from the Lex I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. So as someone who served and lived at least some of the life I wanted... I salute you! Dan
    3. Hi Eduardo, That would be great if not too much trouble. I'd not want to put you out. But if you have the time and wouldn't mind, and assuming the flags show up clear enough to show a bit more detail that would be fantastic. Thanks much! Dan
    4. Hi Jon, Not a problem! I haven't taken a look at the "Devaluing" thread for a bit... looks like I'll have to wander over there and take another look. Thanks, Dan
    5. Hi Eduardo, Great shots with flags. Just wish the flags were bigger as I have a friend who loves to see them in all their glory... and the finials as well. If you have more with such please post them as I too love those. He got me re-hooked on flags, banners, etc. and finials. I always try to let him know whenever I see some good pics or film footage of such being displayed. Simply a spectacular collection you have! I just can't get enough of them. It's like an archive of the war. Outstanding! Please keep em' coming! Dan
    6. Hi Torsten, Mucho thanks! And no rush... just something I'd eventually like to display with the doc. A shame it would probably be near impossible to find a pic of the recipient out there as that would be ultra cool! But talk about finding a needle in a haystack. Have a great one! Dan
    7. Hi Torsten, Hello my friend. Glad to see you've come aboard! Wecome!!!! On the NVA part, that's very true of course. Thought he was talking about the certificate. We'll chalk it up to the deranged mind of a cold/flu victim. Any chance of getting a pic of Herr Eikemeier? I did a quick Google search and although it came up with a couple of things, no pics. Many thanks for this info on the certificate and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your future auctions for more. Just have to get my warchest built up a bit. Have a great one! Dan
    8. Hi Eduardo, Another great piece. Sorry I've been out of the loop for a few days but I've been rather under the weather. Hoping tomorrow and over the weekend I'll be able to get more caught up on things. Went through and made a bunch of replies to posts this evening but getting ready to go relax a bit as I'm still not 100%. Just out of curiosity, how do you display all these? It's a rather large collection. Do you use albums or have them in frames or what? I have another friend who collects postcards of stars of yesteryear and he keeps alot of his in something similar to rolodex holders where they can be flipped around and you can see a ton of them on each display holder. I have a German postcard collection that runs from WWII through the post war years. Mostly just scenic cards from members of the same family during that time period but all bought as a group and kept that way by me ever since. But so far they're just kept in a box awaiting better display. Dan
    9. Hi Dave, Nearly forgot... definitely want the autographed varieties. Dan
    10. Hi Gordon, Many thanks for the heads up. I've actually decided to keep them though as by the time I'd send them back I'd be out shipping both ways and as I don't have that much in them they'll do until an original example comes along. But definitely hope these pointers will help others avoid same in their quest for similar boards. Thanks again, Dan
    11. Hi Paul, Many thanks my friend! Sorry it's taken me so long to respond but been snowed under at work, gotten pulled into various projects around here plus got sick this last week so just starting to feel a bit more like my normal self. So trying to get things caught up. I've only seen a couple of these over time but know they do pop up on occassion. Also I've seen presentation pieces from Admirals and Generals including those given to each other from their foreign counterparts, etc. Quite a bit of that sort of thing shows up on Ebay and generally such things are well made due to the rank and/or position of those both on the giving and receiving end of such things. Generally they come on the market when the recipient passes away and their estates are sold off. Sometimes you can make a real find. Dan
    12. Hi Gaffken, Many thanks for the additional info. I'll definitely have to get at least one of these. Thanks so much! Dan
    13. Hi David, Many thanks for this info. I'll try to locate one of these as I've wanted an example (if not several... I'm being inspired by all these photos of the various named examples) of these for ages! Dan
    14. Hi Jerome, Many thanks for this info on my card. I'd have never caught it unless I had it near another reference showing the same with the correct info. I'll have to make a note of it and keep it with the card. Thanks again! Dan
    15. Hi Eduardo, Wow! Now that's alot of shootin'! Fantastic collection. Keep them coming! Dan
    16. Hi Dave, I too would love to be able to get one of the ones with pictures as I know that will add so much to it. I'm going to be saving my pennies. Had one job fall through but going to go try for another which if it works out I'll have alot less time but more $$'s to dedicate to the hobby which will be nice. And of course your book is at the top of the list. Who knows... I might get one of each... with and without pics! Dan
    17. Hi Gordon, Certainly makes sense. That has always seemed so strange to me... coming from the German tradition of wearing just about everything but the kitchen sink, as well as the same Soviet tradition it seemed so odd that they'd limit the number of awards that could be worn at any given time. Dan
    18. Hi John, How can you tell? I looked at it again... granted I'm not feeling all that hot today... got a cold or something but I can't see any reference to the NVA. Tell me your secrets. Dan
    19. Hi Charles, Figures. Heavy sigh. I'm big on those types of cases. I have a fairly nice one which I keep most of my high TR copies in but can easily switch out to other things. It's similar to the red one but is black. It was originally a case for a plate with a picture of one of the Popes in it along with the title and description of same in gold on red silk on the upper liner. I had a friend who wanted the plate and liner so I carefully removed those. Got what I had in the case from my friend for those and kept the case which she wasn't that concerned with. She framed the liner and presented it and the plate with holder to one of her aunts (one of several who are nuns) and I then converted the case to use in my militaria displays. But I'm always on the lookout for more. Sure is a nice one. Perhaps something similar will pop up someday. Will stay on the hunt as one never knows. Thanks! Dan
    20. Hi all, Just out of curiosity, does anyone happen to know if there are any decent models, preferably in a fairly good size... say around six inches to a foot long range, of either the A7V or the tanks used by the allies? Thanks, Dan
    21. Hi Tom, Another "nice" one. Actually you can see the other one up near the top... but it's only barely visible. Dan
    22. Without even seeing the rest of it... I think I LOVE that big case. Did it come with the badges as a special grouping/display or otherwise where did you get it... and can one get more? If so, details please. Thanks, Dan
    23. Hi Pat, Another fine gift from your grandpa. I love the coloration on this one. I've seen several that are similar over the years in their wear, etc., and have always liked them. This is definitely one to be proud of, especially due to the family history of him bringing it back. Those pieces, I think, are always some of the best. Thanks for sharing this one Pat, Dan
    24. Hi Pat, Nice piece. Looks like he got this right from the factory or supplies warehouse. Great shape... especially the fold overs on the back. I've seen so many over the years that are missing one, several or all of these. That was very nice of him to give you this. Thanks for sharing it. Dan
    25. Hi Martin, I can definitely see where someone newer or more inexperienced could jump for this one. Nice coloration on the wreath too... definitely has that older "been there, done that" look. Many thanks for posting this one. I love to see a variety of all these fakes from the really terrible examples that are a waste of material right on up to those which give the experts problems. It's one of the best ways to learn what's good and what's not and why... just as seeing and if possible handling a wide variety of good original examples is highly recommended to become more familiar with what to look for in good pieces. Dan
