    1. Jacky, I believe they are both Verdienst Orders. CHeck Medalnets, rotating avartar for an example. Dan
    2. It looks good to me. I would think the holes you are wondering about is where the pins go hiolding on the centers. I had a 3rd class once and that was the case. I don't recall on the 4ths I have had. Are there any maker marks?
    3. President Bush will award the medal of Honor on Monday, February 26 to Major Bruce P Crandall for action in the Vietnam War. Here's a link to the details. http://www.army.mil/medalofhonor/crandall/profile/index.html With the Stolen Valor Act, I wonder how he'll get it home? Dan
    4. Doesn't the red backing typically mean it was awarded to someone most likely in the army?
    5. Those interviews from the Pritzker Library are availbale from itunes as a pod cast. They are great and a real treasure. I would recommend anyone with an interest in the MOH to download all of them.. Sammy Davis is especially good. Dan
    6. I once had a PLM like the one staring this thread. Sometimes you see this piece with the German Patent Pending stamp on the back. They are all the same with the legs drilled out (especially noticeable from the back). Mine even had the same style of suspension loop which was the same as the ring on a key chain, albeit gold plated. I'll try an see if I have a scan of it, but I doubt it. By the way I bought the piece at a gun show for about $25.00.
    7. Doesn't anyone find it curious that a 1957 S&L PLM can be attributed to Eduard Ritter von Schleich when he died in 1947? Some how I am not making the connection there.
    8. Here is a link showing the connection between Pam Sterner and the Stolen Valor Act. Her good intentions I believe got corrupted once the bureucratic process started. I don't consider her a villianese, just ill advised. I believe the actual person who screwed this up for all is FBI Crusader Agent Cottone. He is the problem and has an agenda. http://www.colostate-pueblo.edu/news/releases06/100.htm
    9. After the first response from the office I Representative Simpson, R-Idaho. I rep;ied back with the doc off the OMSA site. Her reply: "Dan, Thank you for the information and explanation. I will certainly discuss this issue with the Congressman and let him know of the difficulties it has created. Unfortunately, Congressman Simpson is not on the committee with jurisdiction over this issue. I would recommend that you continue to work with the Orders and Medals Society of America as well as the Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over this law, to implement the changes needed to protect the rights of our military men and women while, at the same time, guaranteeing the rights of collectors and those who work to preserve and honor our great military men and women and their traditions. Best, Megan" Perhaps some good advice on direction and approach. I still haven't heard anyhing from the Senators. One more wek and I'll call. Dan
    10. Try and find a full size DSC, NC, AFC, etc on eBay. They are gone.
    11. Here is what I heard from Congressman Simpson, R-Idaho. Dear Daniel, My name is Megan XXXXXX and I am Congressman Simpson's Legislative Assistant in charge of Military and Veterans Issues. The Congressman asked me to respond to your letter by email in order to expedite the response. The Stolen Valor Act was designed to expand federal law enforcement's ability to prosecute individuals who claim to have received military medals they did not earn. It was supported by a number of organizations including the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the FBI Agents Association. Because current law only allowed prosecution of imposters who wear an unearned Medal of Honor on their person, this legislation will expand the law to include those who publicly claim to be decorated veterans, allowing the Federal Bureau of Investigation to finally prosecute several high profile cases. I have included a link to a website which discusses the legislation and highlights some examples of cases in which it was meant to target. http://www.homeofheroes.com/herobill/ This bill passed the House on December 6, 2006 by voice vote rather than by recorded vote. Thanks," I reponded with the letter posted earlier. Once again they site Home of Heroes. Pam Sterner, The web sites owner's wife started this whole mess. Don't give up. There has to be 1 in 100, or 1 in 435 that gives a rat's ass.
    12. What if we all send to our various representative one of our duplicate, new issue purple hearts, DSC, navy cross, etc. with a note saying these of from my collection of what is now "stolen valor" contraband> Come and arrest me.
    13. I believe the wife of the Home of Heroes website geek was the initial driver in this scherade. That web site is too much too stomach.
    14. I will call them each and every day if I don't hear from them soon. The new governor was the representative at the time. I can always walk inot his office and see what happens. What a bunch of chicken shits.
    15. I have written my state's congressional deligation asking to know how they voted and how this effects me a collector. Do I now become a criminal due to a stroke of Bush's pen. I figure since they passed it, they should be able to explain it. It seems this is very similar to the land grab of eminate domain, in that the goverment just stomped on you personal rghts and made your property worthless. I'll post their replys. Hell they should stamp on the back of any non issued piece includung the MOH "replica" or "copy" like they do for the VC and sell'm. The MOH vets are behind this 100%, but no one wants to touch that scared cow.
    16. I don't know if there is a WWII listing. The WWI listing has a number of all decorations awarded to US Personnel. I wish it was a roll, but unfortunately it is not. Here's the source for those who may want a copy. http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/documents/wwi/23awd.htm Dan

    18. So let's assume that since you can't sell this collection any longer you decide to donate it to the local non profit or museum for their new collection on WWI. Can you donate it and take a tax deduction for its value? Or does this fall under that vast umbrella of thou shallt not, sell, barter, get any monitary gain, blah, blah, blah. I guess you could sell the Riker mount for $10K and forget to remove the contents due to oversight.
    19. I'm working on a project concerning the American 42nd Rainbow division in the Meuse-Argonne during World War 1. Specificaly I'm looking for pictures of Landres et Saint Georges, Cote de Chatillion. Also does anyone know which German regimaents were on the other side of the line (Kriemhilde Stellung). I'm getting bits an pieces but nothing solid on the units. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks
    20. Doesn't one of the ribbons on the bar have to be an Oldenburg FA2, based on him having an FA1?
    21. I think the won awarded to my cousin Thomas Croft Neibaur is the tri colored one. I know this picture isn't the best, The medals in order are French - Croix de Guerre, Legion of Honor, USA - Medal of Honor, Italian - Croce di Merito, Montenegro - Silver Bravery medal. Dan
    22. My actual medal is the white ribbon with red stripes and a white stripe on the edge. So it is: white, red, white, red, white. Same as in the first photo. I nabbed that photo from a site because it showed the two medals with ribbons side by side to illustrate my question. Dan
    23. Can someone ell me the difference between these two ribbons on this decoration. My relative was awarded one in WWI and the museum where it resides has the wrong ribbon on it. (They have an italian war medal ribbon). I want to get the correct one. It looks like in the black and white photos it the tricoilred ribbon. Thanks Dan Cole
