    1. Hallo Tom, many thanks for your helpful suggestions, I have sent an email for my friend as he is not so hot at typing in English. Kevin in Deva
    2. Tom, your suggestion makes sense to me, upon close inspection the BRAO is RA O B and the CLE is G L E. These items are way out of my area of collecting I am trying to id it for a Romanian friend, all I know is he bought it recently via Ebay UK. for about 9 GB. Pounds. Kevin in Deva
    3. Hallo Gentlemen, a Romanian friend of mine recently obtained a Medal, see attached pictures please. To the front: the top ribbon bar has the word FOUNDER under this woven into the ribbon intertwined BRAO ? over C L E, on the bottom ribbon bar is the date: 1926. Under this hangs the medal with intwined Intials, around this is engraved: ABBEY LODGE, PERSHORE, No. 5887. To the rear is a large pin, and on the backof the medal is a Gold Hallmarked plate with the Inscription: PRESENTED TO BRO. H. JAKEWAYs KOM, For Services Rendered As FOUNDER 9th May 1927. The hallmarks are: A rectangle with LS. A Lion Rampent. A Tiger Head. A Letter "L". On the reverse of the leaf scroll reading from left to right is the maker name: SIMPSON & CO, LONDON, 56 YORK ?? N I. Any information would be appriciated. Kevin in Deva

    9. From my understanding of whats in the book, it was awarded for good work attendance which includes industry, so a factory worker in a printing firm and eventualy an owner of his own business would qualify. In this case without counting any Ww1 Service (I think the Reich only counted Wehrmacht service towards it pre 1938.) "On Hitlers accession to power he perceived the necessity of drawing all the long service awards of the states and industry under one umbrella." Maybe a few of the other gentlemen could offer their views too, Oh! Ricky, come out to play Kevin in Deva.
    10. Hallo Chris Nice group, hopefuly you will show the medal bar too I presume you mean his 25 year Cross is the nazi civil award, given for good work service? From: A Collectors Guide To: WORLD WAR 2 GERMAN MEDALS AND POLITICAL AWARDS by Mr. Christopher Ailsby, page141...... "On Hitlers accession to power he perceived the necessity of drawing all the long service awards of the states and industry under one umbrella. This Nazi concept was to draw these awards into direct governmental control and was contrary to that employed by the Weimar government which, after Ww1, had developed government into the states (L?nder). . . . . . "Early in 1936, the Reichsminister of the Interior initiated steps to establish such awards and on the 30.01.38 these awards were instituted to recognise loyal sevice to the German people. "Consideration of the service time began when the prospective recipient reached the age of 18. Any break in service for duty with the military in the capacity of an administrator or on active duty, was allowed to count towards the total time for loyal civil service, as did service in the civil organisations of the Police and Labour Service. This explains why the Cross can be found on WW1 veterans bars. I hope the information I supplied is correct to answer your question. Kevin in Deva
    11. Hallo Tom Y Would the ceramic insulator he is holding in his left hand be any indication to his job Kevin in Deva
    12. Hallo Mike, as it was explained to me the Mutual Aid Association's was ran by Masons. And I have seen other French medals on French Ebay with the same symbol: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A%3AIT&rd=1 and other auctions I have seen in the past made direct reference to the word Freemason But must confess to being a military medal collector. Kevin in Deva.
    13. Hallo Terry B, Welcome to the forum, any pictures of your items please. Helps a lot with identifications:P Thank you, Kevin in Deva.
    14. Hallo Solomon here is a picture of a Medal I sold recently to a lady in France, she told me it was connected to the Freemasons, as you can see it has the depiction of two hands shaking. Kevin in Deva
    15. Hallo saschaw, I have seen the "shaking hands" symbol on French Freemason medals, so I believe your assumption to be correct. Kevin in Deva.
    16. Hallo Hendrik, Very many thanks for posting this, quite a beautiful design By the way enjoy the holiday, talk to you soon. Kevin in Deva
    17. Hallo Scott have you considered the idea, that there only being a couple of digits difference that the wrong blade was slipped into the wrong sheath after manufacture in the factory?? sounds plausable, early Monday morning - late Friday afternoon mentality and nobody caught the mistake? Kevin in Deva
    18. Hallo Robert I dont think it is even Bavarian, while they had a lion on their coat of arms it also carried a pattern of blue and white diamonds (sideways checkerboard) as can be seen on many of their military medals and insignia. The item you have pictured is not the same, the crown is not like the one depicted for Bavaria. Kevin in Deva.
    19. Hallo EuRob Its for a Prussian War Veterans Association, (similar to the British Legion of today) a members badge, not strictly a military item but I feel at 35 Pounds you paid over the top Its probably pre WW1 though, with a nice old style pin. If you have the chance you should look at German ebay: http://listings.ebay.de/Deutsches-Reich_Or...ListingItemList the page even in German is easy to navigate, and with the Aid of:http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com/ you can do a basic translate from German to English. On German Ebay and you will find many similar pins and badges and some sell for far less, anyway, militaria is a learning curve and nearly all members here will tell you, that research and reference books are a must. As stated by Tom Y the name refers to the location of the Association. By the way Tom Y I think yours is showing the head of King Ludwig of Bayern, its very similar to a medal in my collection again for a Veterans Association. Kevin in Deva.
    20. Hallo'REGAL UNIFORMA COLECTOR' Only for that oversight it might have just passed for an original well spotted, Kevin in Deva
    21. Tom, whatever you do dont damage the booklet. . . . . as a last resort buy a digital camera with a good macro function , we can wait till the shops open on Monday Kevin in Deva
    22. Gentlemen Just for a laugh I sent an email via ebay to the seller asking "how could we know this is not a scam?" I attach the answer: "Hello, First I would like to thank you for looking at my auction. It is in no way my intention to scam anyone. I'm not out here to cheat anyone or sell a pipe dream. If you read my description, I am admantant about selling the rock itself as an artifact. I only included information on this myth regarding a map to to address those who have asked about it and for those who are curious. I even goes as far as to say that it is not proven fact and may of course not be true. As for my opening lines that nobody can claim anything quite like it, you would be hard pressed to find any other rock like it. I have not seen this other man's supposed rock and I have not seen any on Ebay. As a matter of fact, you can follow the letter link on the auction if you press the underlined 2 or the Respond Now Button. You will see this person exists and has since messaging me has bought another item off of Ebay. I personally assure you I would not go through such elaborate measures for an auction. Check my other auctions, I sell vintage Maritime collectibles and vintage radios as well as classic videogames. I only offer this rock as an artifact and not a treasure map. I only included that history as a point of interest or reference. Visitations to Iwo Jima are heavily restricted and the whole site has been declared a historical zone much like the United State's Arlington Cemetary. Any taking of artifacts from the island would have been prior to this declaration or arranged from someone of the area. I hope this is of some help to you and I hope that you consider what I wrote not to be a defense or rebuttal, but a way of clearing things up. Thanks again. Sincerely, Michalven. Whole lot of writing like the auction write-up and it still says nothing Kevin in Deva
    23. Hallo Dolf, spend a few minutes thinking what ya could do with all that treasure. . . . . might help,. . . . if not take two Asprin and call me in the morning Kevin in Deva
    24. well Peter if ya read the blurb it states: "You will not find something like this anywhere else. I repeat, this is a one of a kind treasure." followed by: "captn.(name removed)* ( 2) * = by clicking on the number 2 it leads you to: Member Profile: captn.ahab (3) Positive feedback: 100% Member since: May-30-06 Location: Austria Registered on: www.ebay.at dear Sir ! The jap inscription on the rock is the first part of a treasure map leading to 600 lbs of burried gold. if I were you I would not sell it. I have one just like it, also recovered from the volcano island of Iwo Jima and it contains the second part of the map revealing the whereabouts of the sunken treasure. I will put it on auction soon for $ 20.000. make sure you keep an eye out for it. Greetings, Captain (name removed) so what are the gullible to do buy this one then the Austrian one and get all the treasure?? Kevin in Deva
