    1. I cropped and highlighted your picture a little for clarity. Hope you don't mind. Kevin in Deva
    2. Hallo Noor We do have a chap on the forum http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showuser=343 very up to speed on these crosses and it might be an idea to PM and invite him to have a look at the thread. Kevin in Deva
    3. Same Seller has a Spanish War Cross which I posted about before:- http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtop...st&p=257679 Current seller Blurb on May 2nd 2008:- But the pictures shown on his auction have an entirely different name engraved on the rear to that given in the seller Blurb Seems he has a lot of items which to my eye are of dubious quality and sky-high prices. Kevin in Deva
    4. Hallo Scot There was a connection, but that connection was broken in WW1, so nothing that would justify a Romanian Civil Order of the Star on a War Merit Ribbon. Or explain why the bar has a Hindenburg Combatant Cross at the start of the bar. I really would like to see a picture of the rear of this bar. Kevin in Deva (Transylvania)
    5. Hallo hipnos To my eye it looks like the 1934 Hindenberg Cross has been tacked on to the left front of the bar. The last two medals on the first bar are Romanian: The Romanian Order of the Star on Military virtue ribbon, strangely the Order of the Star has no swords (to indicate a wartime issue!!!) so therefore is a civil issue and should not be on a Military Virtur ribbon. and the PELES Castle Medel, awarded to people who were present at the opening of the Romanian Royal Castle of Peles. In WW1 Romania was fighting against the Germans, Austrians, etc.. Any chance to see close up pictures, and pictures of the rear. Kevin in Deva.
    6. There is a very persistent seller on British Ebay who strips the German medals from German bars and sells them as individual items, the paperwork, the pictures all sold individually, but on each auction he mentions the item is from "so and so" in "such and such" a state See: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GERMAN-BAYERN-Iron-C...1QQcmdZViewItem for his latest sales Kevin in Deva
    7. The Swiss medal above is not an official military issue per se, but an item that was sold to raise money to help the wives and families of soldiers away on duty at the borders, state security etc..etc in the WW1 years. This one has been further modified to a broach fitting. Kevin in Deva.
    8. As one of my links relates to Swiss Table Medals of a historical nature I did not see the need to copy the many images to G.M.I.C. (would need to seek permission anyway!) as the link is just to give an idea that the Swiss were into producing medals, if not into wearing them. Kevin in Deva.
    9. This is a link to Swiss Table Medals :- <a href="http://www.historicalartmedals.com/MEDAL%2...ew%20thumbnails" target="_blank">http://www.historicalartmedals.com/MEDAL%2...ew%20thumbnails</a>. from the: COLLECTION OF BENJAMIN WEISS MEDALS BY JEAN AND JACQUES-ANTOINE DASSIER. Peacekeeping Service Medals: As a result of a Directive dated 10 March, 2000, Swiss soldiers who serve on peacekeeping mission are authorized to wear a medal for that service. The medals are awarded for 150 days in theatre. To date, the following medals have been authorized: Peacekeeping Medal (pictured left), Korea, Namibia, Sahara (MINURSO), Bosnia-Herzegovinia and Kosovo. 10. Martin Bormann disappeared in the breakout from the Berlin Bunker in 1945. According to Erich Kempka (Hitler's chauffeur), Bormann was killed trying to cross the Russian lines by an anti-tank shell which hit the tank in which they were trying to escape, causing it to burst into flames. Kempka, who was temporarily blinded at the time, claimed nonetheless to have seen Bormann's dead body. Hitler Youth Leader, Artur Axmann, on the other hand, believed that Bormann committed suicide and claimed to have seen Bormann's body on 2 May 1945 in the Invalidenstrasse, north of the River Spree in Berlin. Doubts, however, have persisted and numerous sightings of Bormann have been reported, beginning in 1946 when his presence in a North Italian monastery was announced. In the same year, his wife Gerda (a rabid Nazi and daughter of Supreme Party Judge, Walter Buch) died of cancer in South Tyrol, though his ten children survived the war. It was then alleged that Bormann had escaped (like other loyal Nazis) via Rome to South America. Rumored to have settled in Argentina where he was living secretly as a millionaire, allegedly spotted in Brazil and also in Chile, Bormann's traces proved as elusive as the anonymity in which he first rose to power. Having been sentenced to death in absentia at Nuremberg on 1 October 1946, he was formally pronounced dead by a West German court in April 1973 but his precise fate remains unknown. Any arrest post 1945 with or without a suitcase (heavy) with Krugerrands, would have placed him in the worlds spotlight, for a High Profile War Crimes Trial, especially with him being one of the main nazi henchmen, and even more so after, Hitler, Gobbels Himmler, & Goring, all committed suicide to evade justice. 11. Sorry, Blackbird, I have no idea with regards civil issues, but reading what is posted above it seems their is a disdain from wearing any decorations But to bring this thread back in line I attach pictures of this Swiss Commemorative Piece from 1945 recently for sale on e b a y Kevin in Deva.

    17. From page 18 at: http://www.hydroretro.net/etudegh/terreursurlaville.pdf This might indicate where airships were located in Timisoara http://66.102.9.104/translate_c?hl=en&...ficial%26sa%3DN Szent-Timisoara Andras (Timisoara Ger) 1915 Kevin in Deva
    18. Hallo Carol I, its not on the monument, but, what I pieced together from a net search, frustratingly there was a page in Romanian about it but Mozilla Firefox dumped my bookmarks and I am trying to locate it again. Worst comes to worst I might post a question with regards this on WW2.ro Forum and see what turns up. Kevin in Deva.
    19. Hallo Carol I, from what I understand, the Airship had returned from a bombing mission, and when attempting to land suffered an accident, I speculate that for some reason she struck the earth, nose down and the occupants of the engine compartment were killed, there must have been some further damage during the resulting sudden crash that took out the control area killing the Captain and Officers. I wonder if any newspaper records from that time (1916) in Timisoara have survived. Kevin in Deva.
    20. Great pictures Brian, If you watch the movie, saving Private Ryan, you will notice the same tracks on the "Tiger" Tank in the movie, it being a prop built around a Russian Tank, as the only running British owned Tiger was in pieces at Bovington having a complete refurbish at the time the movie was made.
