Chris Boonzaier Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Just need the leather one to complete the collection.... Not impossible... but difficult... then I have my Bavarian Jägers complete....
Mike Dwyer Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 You mean that's all we were waiting for????? JUST KIDDING!!!! Very, very, very nice, Chris. You've got some beautiful stuff there! :jumping:
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Well... seeing 470 hits on the thread before I had posted anything was even more fun than getting the stuff!!!!!
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Hi, here is a funny one.... he seems to have an officers Feldzeichen on the helmet. It was on ebay as a bavarian Jäger, but from the collar badges I think not. Must be Schneeschu bstln?

Looking at the uniform, he is definately an NCO of the Schneeschuh Bataillon. Unfortunately, I do not have enough knowledge regarding uniforms to comment regarding his shako. Best regards, "SPM"
joerookery Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 he seems to have an officers Feldzeichen on the helmet. Chris, There were private purchase ones that looked somewhat similar in black-and-white but did not have bullion. Quite normal for this rank. Exceptionally nice picture! VR Joe
Chip Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 The ID of the unit could depend on the date of the photo. After May of 1915 the Bavarian Schneeschuh Batls. became battalions of the Jäger Regiment Nr.3. I believe, at that time the name Schneeschuh was officially dropped and they just became the 1st and 4th battalions of the new Jäger regiment. Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 OK..... its not as nice as a Fieldgrey jacket.... but here, just arriving today.... is a 2nd Bavarian Jäger battalion tunic. Based on some photos seen, the men in the Ersatz battalion up until 1916 were still wearing these during training... and Jägers back home on leave had them on as well. I put the medals on as I have them in a Photo of a man wearing the blue jacket on leave. This is THE non-fieldgrey jacket I need. I usually dont like them at all.
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 From what I see, the Bavarian Jäger had black belts, not brown...

I much prefer the "in living color" days to the field gray ones! :D

Chris Boonzaier Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Hi, here is one dated december 1916
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Would not mind one of those jackets.... anyone know the official designation?
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 actually, i would have loved to have been there when you opened the shipping box!! joe It did not come in a box :-) A guy in Aschaffenburg had it and he kept me hanging on for ages and ages before he sold it to me... On the new Uniforms section I have it up with some period photos of them being worn during the war... http://www.kaiserscross.com/286801/293101.html Best Chris
Thomas W Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Would not mind one of those jackets.... anyone know the official designation? Schneeschuh-Litewka, I believe.
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Here is an interesting one with a "1" in the "S".
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Here are some nice entries for a 3. Jäger Battalion guy wounded at Verdun
Chip Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Chris, Very nice indeed. 3.Jäger Regiment, however. Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Chris, Very nice indeed. 3.Jäger Regiment, however. Chip Right you are! I was typing too fast ... Regt it is..
Glenn J Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Chris, he seems to have an officers Feldzeichen on the helmet Because as a Senior Noncommissioned officer (Unteroffizier mit Portepee) he was entitled to wear the officers' pattern Feldzeichen. See below from paragraph 139 of the Bavarian Bekleidungsordnung of 21 January 1904 concerning the rank distinctions of the Feldwebel/Wachtmeister and Vizefeldwebel/Vizewachtmeister (Last two lines):
Chip Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Glenn, Do you have or have access to the Bavarian uniform regulations from the war years? Regards, Chip
Glenn J Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Chip, not the regulations but I have a copy of "Die Feldgraue friedens-und Kriegs-Bekleidung der K.Bayerischen Armee" by Helm & Ströbel. Regards Glenn
