dond Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 The postman just dropped this off- my Christmas present to myself.
Daniel Murphy Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Don, That is a beauty. It would appear that it once belonged to a Saxon junior enlisted man with a medical connection. Perhaps a Sanitatsgefreiter during the war. And the maker marked tag actually being the backer instead of just sewn to it, is unique. I have never seen that before. Interesting that it has an Austrian Red Cross award, but not a German one. A great bar. Dan
Stogieman Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Hi Don, I love the backing. first time I've seen that maker!
Riley1965 Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Don, That's a real BEAUTY!!! I'll have to get myself a late Christmas present...reserved. Doc
Wild Card Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Yes, that backing is particularly interesting
Paul R Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Very nice! I can only dream of such an awesome present! What was the medical medal awarded for?
Ulsterman Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 nice bar! The Austrian red cross medal makes the set!
Gerd Becker Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Nice bar, Don. I have never seen that maker too.
Ulsterman Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Looking at the medals' order-it appears the austrian medals are recognized as 'german'-which perhaps means post Anschluss, but pre long service medals issue. Makes you wonder who wore it without a long service medal-SA/ SA reserve/ party official/ DRK?

The Austrians are worn in front of Hungary and Bulgaria, which is the most likely order, also pre 1938.Nothing German behind the two Austrians ...
