    QUOTE (Ulsterman @ Dec 15 2008, 17:30 ) Another beauty!! cheers.gif

Another badge to look for too.

Do you know when it was instituted?

    Thanks for showing us.

    Hello all,

My guess is that this badge was instituted in the very early 50s, perhaps before 1953, because in '53 and '54 two series of agricultural "KIV?L?" badges were instituted, end this type never appeared after that, it became obsolete I think.

    Gents,

Here are some "KIVÁLÓ" badges from those series I mentioned above, from agriculture:

    "KERTÉSZ" - gardener/horticulturist

"NÖVÉNYTERMELŐ" - agrarian/farmer (who grows plants)

    cimbineus,

Superb pictures of badges I don't think I have ever seen before. I expcet they will be in your next book?

    Regards,

    Gordon

Thank you, Gordon. You can see these badges in the first addition (1997) of my book too, in the "Agriculture" chapter. (pp. 123-153)

I had no idea there were so many types!

Yes, indeed, this subject is an inexhaustible well, I would say. This is just one basic type of these badges but if you take the whole spectrum of civilian "KIVÁLÓ" badges, all professions and activities, there are more than 1000 different ones. Let's go! Don't give up!

My small contribution to a rather impressive thread and body of work. Early Sztahanovista badge, case and document. I do not remember seeing a number on the reverse, I will check it again tomorrow. It was really the document that appealed to me... check out the attached, enameled State Seal!

Well, after reading this thread I'm more than a bit intimidated but, hey, I'm just starting the Hungarian end of my collection, so I thought I'd show these two badges I just acquired. Both have the Rakosi arms which, frankly, I prefer from a design standpoint. First, the Kivalo Dolgozo badge:

    Stogieman,

Nice awards. One of these days I must translate the facing page of the award booklet!

    Greg,

Never too late to start collecting Hungarian awards. As Cimbieus has illustrated, you will never run out of different badges to collect not to mention the different variations.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Greg - nice 1953 Letter - Number combination Sztahanovista. As you are probably aware - the chain is short a few links on the one side. Still a very nice and hard to obtain variation

    Yeah! I am jealous-

here's a pic. Hunyadi sent me years ago...

The man in this picture is a well-known frontrunner of the socialist labour movement in Hungary. His name is Ignác Pióker. During his active life he gained practically all the Hungarian orders and medals which could be awarded for labour achievements. He was born in 1907 at that time in Hungary, but after the Trianon tragedy his place of birth went to Romania. Later he defected to Hungary and settled down in Budapest. He worked as metal-worker. He introduced several new methods and procedures of working on different machines and as a result he became the Hungarian "Stahanov", frontrunner worker. From 1949 medals and orders started flowing to him like water. He was a member of the Hungarian Parliament from 1953 to 1985, and a member of the Presidential Council from 1975. He died in 1988.
