Christian Zulus Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Dear Bryan, many thanks for your posting .I have no "Orders of Military Merit" in my collection - the prices in Vienna had been always too high .A lot of foreigners received this order also.Best regards Christian
Bryan Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 You should look on eBay. Maybe the dealers in Vienna bought them on eBay as well.
Bryan Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 Here's my 1st class.I presume it's a tombac one because it's a 6 torches variation. Is that right?Very nice trio by the way!
new world Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I presume it's a tombac one because it's a 6 torches variation. Is that right?Very nice trio by the way! That's correct!
order_of_victory Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 That's correct! This might seem like a daft question but what exactly is Tombac, I seem to remember it has somthing to do with the DDR Order of Victory
Christian Zulus Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Difference between 1st & 2nd classGentlemen, maybe I am an idot, but what's the physical difference of the 1st & 2nd class - look the same - or is the 1st class a bit larger in diamenter ?Best regards Christian
Bryan Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 The outside star of the order. It's obviously different to me.

Carol I Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 This might seem like a daft question but what exactly is Tombac, I seem to remember it has somthing to do with the DDR It's a brass with more than 80% copper.
Christian Zulus Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Gentlemen, many thanks for your expertise .Yes, double number of rays .But isn't the basic star a little bit larger in diamenter - or is it a optical illusion ?Best regards Christian
new world Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Christian, diameters of the 2nd and 1st classes are the same, more rays create impression that 1st class is slightly larger.William
walter483 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Here are my orders for military merit1st clas with grand star2nd clas with golden swords-6 torches3 clas with silver swords - 5 in 6 torch variation
Christian Zulus Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 (edited) Dear Valter, many thanks for your scans .Do you know, why the quality of enamel of the white shield is always very poor ?Here in Vienna the prices for "Military Merit" are raising: A dealer has a 2cl for USD 500,- in his shop window ... (it had been a 1cl ...)These orders are still missing in my small and humble collection, due to the fact, that "Military Merit" has been always overpriced in Vienna .Best regards ChristianCorrection: Yesterday I had a closer look to that order at the dealer and it is a 1cl - but the price is still too high . Edited May 3, 2007 by Christian Zulus
leigh kitchen Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 The shield is plated a matt siver colour - it's metal, not enamelled.

Gaffken Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Gents--my first (very recent) foray into Yugoslav awards: a '5-torch' 3rd class star...Gaffken
walter483 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 500 $ for 2nd class is, by my experience and knowledge, way too much. just yesterday I saw on e-bay 1st class (5 torch variation) with one bid for 275$ and no reserve. 2nd clases are sold (I saw a few) for 100-150 $. I bought my set - 1st, 2nd and 3rd class - for 800 USD.
order_of_victory Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Heres a document for a 3rd class that arrived in today Order of Victory
hunyadi Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Well - now I have a problem - my second Yugoslavian award... Another Five Torch type in the case - but no ribbon.
hunyadi Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Detail of the reverse. The seller tried to jack the price up becasue he claimed that the badge is made of solid silver (!) I am going to assume that these are heavy plated and not solid? Dealers are funny - its like he was expecting me to melt it down for more 'value'...
Christian Zulus Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Results of the auction in ViennaGentlemen,Rauch's auction in Vienna http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=19027 resulted in the following hammer prices (incl. all fees & taxes in EURO):- 1cl (6 torches) - ? 348,-- 2cl (5 torches, cased) - ? 120,-- 2cl (5 torches) - ? 138,-- 3cl (6 torches, cased) - ? 60,-- 3cl (5 torches) - ? 72,-Best regards Christian
Drugo Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Gentlemen, back from Belgrade, where I found my grandfather's IIIcl. 5 torches order. It's cased and with document (1957), the box is in very poor condition, but it's still a nice set, and of course very significant for me. Regards,Filip
