Stogieman Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 A rare series of images, private fotos all, from an album page purchased in Germany. 1 page, photos on both sides. Rare as heck! Here's The Brothers & Papa
Stogieman Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 Group shot. Best as we can tell, ca. Fall, 1916. There's at least 4 eventual PLM winners here. Casualty Rate was ~80% by the end of the war!
Stogieman Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 Here we have the obligatory "stairs" shot. I don't think I've seen a photo shot of any of the groups that didn't include a "stairs" shot!
Stogieman Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 Notice the numbering in the last 2 fotos? Here's the key neatly penned into the album:
Stogieman Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 And finally, an "action shot" as the Rittmeister discusses tactics (??) with an unidentified pilot.
Guest Robert Drew Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Mindblowing and stunning! Thanks for sharing.Robert

notned Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 Thankyou soo much for showing these pics Made my day!
Biro Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 Really, in the realms of historical photographs, does it get any better than that?!!!!I don't think so.WONDERFUL stuff Rick. Marshall
Stogieman Posted August 6, 2005 Author Posted August 6, 2005 I consider myself very lucky. The odd (authentic) pix that shows up usually fetches outrageous sums of money. Especially previously unknown/unpublished private photos. Recently, a postcard popped up on eBay in the US. One postcard. It showed a profile of vonRichtofen putting his hat back on after paying his respects at the funeral of another airman. It sold for in excess of $900. I think the part that is the bummer is that these are all just one page ripped from an album. I'd love to have seen where the rest of it went.
Stogieman Posted August 6, 2005 Author Posted August 6, 2005 Yes,but unforyunately a Sanke/Liersch won't cut the mustard!
Ulsterman Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Bloody hell! Those are nice pics. Book worthy stuff.
Paul R Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 Bloody hell! Those are nice pics. Book worthy stuff. ←Very nice aquisition!! Best regardsPAul
byf Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Greetings Lads, I am happy to be on this Forum. This is my first post. Has anyone read the book THE RED KNIGHT OF GERMANY by Floyd Gibbons-1927? It is an outstanding read. It has translations of all his combat reports and letters home to Mamma. It is a great book. It covers his start as an Uhlan in the east, boar hunting, learning to fly, crashes, and his stellar but brief time in the air. Check it out.byf
