buellmeister Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 (edited) Gent's, Went to the Lowell Miltiary Show today and speaking of which, didn't see Ulsterman or Rick. Where were you Guys? Well, hopefully next month we can regroup and talk about the acquisitions of the day. I happened upon this little Cross with the Frame halves made of Brass and stamped with a "square." None the less, I haven't previously owned one stamped with such and unknown Manufacturer before and welcome it's new home in my medal case. I love the crisp core this one exhibits as well! Regards,Joel Edited June 3, 2007 by buellmeister
joe campbell Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 very nice example of an ek one doesn't seeall too often!joe
buellmeister Posted June 3, 2007 Author Posted June 3, 2007 Joe, Thank you for your reply. I could't find the stamp referenced on the Maker's list from the Kaiser's Bunker website let alone one with Brass Frames.
gregM Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 (edited) I could't find the stamp referenced on the Maker's list from the Kaiser's Bunker websiteHe has it referenced with the 1st. class crosses as simply "unknown"BTW- That is a very nice variation. Edited June 3, 2007 by gregM
buellmeister Posted June 3, 2007 Author Posted June 3, 2007 Greg, Thank you as well. Definately one of the more unusual in my collection and from what I've seen, in general....Regards,Joel
Steve campbell Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I also have one of these squre punch marked EK2's. Mine has a zinc core.
Steve campbell Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 (edited) Here's the rear. No picture of the mark but it is there on the ring quite easy to see. Maybe it's a quality control mark or something. Both of these crosses shown here use something other than iron as the core. Interesting. Edited June 5, 2007 by Steve campbell
Motorhead Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Joel-you made it again......"square" marked EKs with non magnetic core are really hard to find.Same for Steves EK-the fist one with zinc core I see from this maker!Micha
buellmeister Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Micha, When I handled the cross I knew that not only it would fill a foid in my collection with the "square" stamp but the fact that it was a brass framed piece really got me excited! Thank you sir! Steve, Congrats to you on obtaining a rare find! Exquisite Cross my friend!Regards,Joel
Steve campbell Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Thanks, it's one of my favorite's. Really good core detail on this one.
Steve campbell Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 That's how I feel about all my crosses. I have 3 new Imperial 1st class pick ups I will post tonight. Cheers! Would love to get a brass frame square punch one of these days.
Ulsterman Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Great cross! Does Gordon know what/who the "square" is?I was at a baseball game-getting rained upon. But next month-the "supplier" will be back so we'll be there-elbowing those Polish and Russian chaps aside in the scrum for more Austrian/DDR/Soviet and Hungarian pieces.
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I think TomY has a brass frame one as well... maybe with a stamp?
buellmeister Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Jeff, I know what you mean about getting through the onlookers and those that cut in front of you just to be impolite. It's all good especially if you can find a piece or two in what interests you and to know that you got though it ok with just minor bruising... Regards,Joel
