Hi gents! Does anyone know anything about this? Apparently only a handfull were awarded? What was it called?

That one is a 57er with a bogus marking added.

Thanks Don! It's not for sale, I saw it on a Kriegsmarine site, and had never seen one before.

I believe it's a "Divers" badge, however I can't find the reference at the momment.

Kampfabzeichen der Kleinkampfmittel 7th grade (if gold), or 5th grade (if bronze). I have seen only the M1957 versions.

Hello ,

This is the 1957 version of the Kampfabzeichen der Kleinkampfmittel . You see these all the time on ebay and even some books on German WWII medals but this is incorrect ! The original WWII version had smooth fins and the post war 1957 version has the ribbed fins . I believe anyone in the Kleinkampfverband could earn this award but as it came very late in the war and the loss rate was very high few were ever awarded .
