Guest Rick Research Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I used to think that there were so few Saxon medal bars around, before re-unification, because everything was on the other side of the Iron Curtain. Then it rusted away, and STILL the medal bars did not appear. Now I know why. There never were many. Saxons, it seems, have a long and MESSY history of Fashion Cluelessness.I mean, what was this guy THINKING? Here he is, circa 1905, with a brand new silver Friedrich August Medal and a FLAT Frackspange that is merely BACKWARDS, not ANGLED...... and he was the cashier (Kassierer) of his local Veterans Group!!!
Guest Rick Research Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 A Human Pincushion from Mittweida, circa 1914. Yeah, just slap 'em on ANYPLACE!Though at least in this guy's case, we know WHY he looks like this ...his furniture was possessed by Satan!!!!!!!
sambolini Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Hi Rick,Good point, The Saxons did often favor the triangular ribbon attachment of their Austrian neighbors, but I thought even then they usually mounted them. Perhaps not as often as I first thought. Sam

Chris Boonzaier Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 2nd guy looks a bit like Jack Nicholson...
Glenn R Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 That's not his armchair behind him, it's a small child deeply alarmed by his lack of medal coordination.
webr55 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Looks very weird, but the reason is probably an anti-Prussian attitude due to the historical links of Saxony with Austria. Those 1870/71 veterans probably wanted to show that they were definitely not Prussian.
jaeger7 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 And here is another one with the typical saxon unmounted medals:
Ulsterman Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Ohhh-St. henry's medal! Too bad he never paid to mount them in a bar.Great picture
Komtur Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 A Human Pincushion from Mittweida, circa 1914. Hi Rick, do you know his name? I?m afraid I could be related to him . My mothers family is from Mittweida, a small town in deep deep Saxony, with a high proportion of incest Greetings, Komtur.
Guest Rick Research Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 No names on them. Despite 300 years of living in towns with populations under 2,000, I never came closer than triple 3rd cousins getting married.
