lavagna Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Any help with this EK2. It's available here locally for R300 (Approx. 30Euros). Price seems a little low to me! Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Alex K Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Hi difficult to tell from the photo's, is it one piece or three piece construction?, it looks like a one piece casting to me which would indicate no good. the price for a genuine piece does seem lowregardsAlex K
Kev in Deva Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Hallo Gents I do not like the "veins" on the swastika's arms, a piece which surly would never have passed the R.Z.M. Quality Control ?? Kevin in Deva. Edited January 24, 2008 by Kev in Deva
Paul R Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Do you think the veins could be oxidation under the paint?
Kev in Deva Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Do you think the veins could be oxidation under the paint?Hallo Paul If that were the case, then I think it should show in other parts of the item as well.Anybody got any idea what the green "paint" blobs actually is??Kevin in Deva. Alex K Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Hi Kevin, it's looks like verdigris (Spelling?) a sort of corrosion found on copper or bronze items, not normally on nickel silver or "Neusilber", the material commonly used for the rims on EK's, but I couldbe wrongregardsAlex K
Paul R Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 The green stuff looks exactly like copperoxide. It appears as if the EK2 was stored in direct contact with something copper for a really long time. I look forward to hearing from the Iron Cross Specialists.
Dave B Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 From what I can see it looks fine to me, no red flags....I'd be interested to know if it's 3 part construction(it looks it).
Danny70 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 I would give it a tentative thumbs up... It is very difficult to tell from the pictures if it is a 3 piece or not. Is the core magnetic? It has a lot of the features of a Klein & Quenzer cross... domed swastika and similar 3's (especially on the reverse) and heavy beading. The 'veins' wouldn't bother me too much, I would also put it down to rust forming under the paint. At that price I'd buy it anyway, not a huge loss if it turns out bad, and a lucky break if it's a good one!Just my humble opinion...Regards - Danny

joe campbell Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 i believe the term for the patterning on the hakenkreuz is crazing, and it appears to be present on the 3 o'clock arm as well. it has todo with the materials covering the iron core.i think this cross is fine.joe
