Luftwaffe Rules Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Picked these up for pretty cheap and quite pleased with them two shots of the same gent who we dont know is a pilot until the second shot . He's next to what I think is an Mg-15 on a tripod for airfield defense? Both pics are dated on the back in blue ink: Mai 1944. All the best, Jon
Paul R Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Now that is the most junior ranked pilot I have seen! WOW! Great set of photos, Jon.What is the badge under the pilots badge?
JamesM Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Now that is the most junior ranked pilot I have seen! WOW! Great set of photos, Jon.What is the badge under the pilots badge? It just looks like a bad spot on the photo, and, it overlays his belt, so not likely an award .Cheers,James
Luftwaffe Rules Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 James is correct its just a 'smudge' on the photo itself. I thought it was pretty low rank to be a pilot then again given the date I guess its not that surprising they had to churn them out somehow. Thanks guys! All the best, Jon
norwest78 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) Definitely looks like an MG 15 mounted for AA. I haven't seen a rear sight like that before, though. I'm especially fond of equipment and weapons photos like these. Edited February 8, 2008 by norwest78
norwest78 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Here's some MG 15 photos I have. Enjoy!--KevinMagazine cover of air gunner using MG 15.
norwest78 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Demonstrating MG 15 adapted for ground combat use.
norwest78 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I love this one because you can see the drums in the carriers, hung from the tripod legs.
ERIC Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Nice shots Kev - I like that last pic myself! ERIC
Scott Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) I thought it was pretty low rank to be a pilot then again given the date I guess its not that surprising they had to churn them out somehow. Thanks guys! All the best, JonNice photos Jon. I believe Gefreiter was the lowest rank to become a pilot - even before the war. I have a pilot certificate to a Gefreiter from Sep 1936.Scott Edited February 19, 2008 by Scott
nesredep Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hello!Very nice photos.Mg 15.All the bestNesredep
Luftwaffe Rules Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Great shots Kevin!!Thanks for that info Scott, I was under the impression one had to be an officer to be a pilot? Or am I getting the USAF mixed in there? Thanks guys! All the best, Jon
