pinpon590 Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Hello Gentlemens !This is a photo of an IR 78 group of soldiers.
pinpon590 Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 My question :What are the 2nd order on this officier ?1/ EK12/ ??????????????3/ Wounded badgeThank you gentlemens !
Guest Rick Research Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 It is still too blurry to be certainBut being IR 78, I think the senior Sergeant is wearing the Brunswick Ernst August Cross 1st Class--Though it could also be the Oldenburg Friedrich August Cross 1st Classthough it is simply too blurry to tell.
RAO Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 And I think, that is a Feldwebel not a officier. Greetings Mike

Doesn't appear to be a wreath. Edited August 19, 2008 by Tom Y
ccj Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'd go with the EA. Doesn't appear to be a wreath.I didn't think the EA 1st class was awrded before war's end...
Chip Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Looking at the shoulder board with its bright Tresse, I would say this man is an Offizierstellvertreter. Chip
Kapitular Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I think, he has the Friedrich August Cross 1st Class, because the adress of the postcard is "Bad Essen", a small village, belonging to Oldenburg. He is an "Offizierstellvertreter" as written on the postcard.Best regardsKapitular
Mike Huxley Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) I'd agree with Kapitular mainly because of the size of the cross. The Friedrich August Cross 1st Class is a simular size to the EKI, where as the Brunswick Ernst August Cross 1st Class is a smaller size. There does appear to be, if you look closely an outer ring of the wreath for the Friedrich August Cross in the picture.Mike Edited August 20, 2008 by Mike Huxley
Wild Card Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I didn't think the EA 1st class was awrded before war's end...For what it?s worth, according to Hessenthal/Schreiber, the ?EA 1st class? was founded on 20 March 1918, so I am inclined to think that at least some were awarded before war?s end. Since this postcard is dated 6 June 1918, such an award is a possibility. At the same time, I do agree that it does seem that many, if not most, of these crosses were awarded after November 1918.
