Alex K
p.s. i guess he wasn't a doorman at the vier jahreszeiten, huh?Maybe at the Waldorf Astoria though Excellent work. On a serious note, given the fact that the guy had so many ODM's and was a high official at the Court of the King of Bavaria, any chance he could be eventually identified, so that in the end he has a name and not just a faded postcard? just a thoughtRegardsAlex

Guest Rick Research
No, you're remembering Arthur Achleitner, author of "mountain novels." (I kiddeth NOT.)Herr A's awards are predominantly of the Arts & Sciences variety, while his Doppelg?nger has an amazing array of "normal" awards on his Court outfit.I dipped into the LDH2 roll looking for Bavarian holders and came up with a few who did not instantly match. (Thanks for the improved contrast and enlargements, though image quality itself is still unfortunately washed out enough not to be sure of too many of the heaped on rows of bling.) I suspect he will show up in the back of a 1909+ Bavarian Military Handbook (he appears to have the Bavarian XXIV Years Service Cross in 7th place on his top row after the Red Eagle 4 so he was a former career officer, and the loose ADDITIONAL--naughty naughty naughty 1839-1909 or 1821-1911 Luitpold Jubilee Mdal down by the Iron Crown suggests a regimental sort of affiliation...) among the retired ex-officer types but haven't looked for two reasons1) I actually AM quite busy-- typing out THOUSANDS of Mecklenburg-Strelitz Cross for Distinction in War 1914-1933 awards from the not-supposed-to-exist Rolls. Passed 5,500 2nd Classes today and more thousands than I want to think about still ahead before Magic Alphabetization and then the same amount of time spent adding data to be publisheed in the next wave of Krause-Lundstr?m volumes and2) while I would be THRILLED to identify this for a member of our happy GMIC community, since we don't know where it is or who owns it, my policy has always been not to labour LONG AND HARD to provide free information (adding monetary value) to total strangers. In my 7 years online I have been much taken advantage of in that regard. Hours out of MY remaining life to put money in somebody else's pocket-- especially Persons Completely Unknown is not going to happen. Those of you who are active here know how enthusiastically I always help YOU out, if I can. But I draw the line at "us." Time + effort x no pay = SLAVERY. So my attention span IS wandering. I pass through here as often as I can-- and when I can stand hunched over TYPING no more, no not even one more line, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Wild Card
Here are some guesses. The positions are as close as I can put them1st row #1, Bavarian Leopold Cross1st row #3, Prussian 1870-1 medal with about 5 bars1st row #5 Prussian Centenary medal1st row #6 Prussian RAO 4th class2nd row between SAO and Austrian Franz Josef Order is a Saxon Ernestine knight2nd row after the Austrian Franz Josef Order could be a W?rttemberg Friedrich order knightBottom row left, Austrian Order of Iron Crown Edited September 25, 2008 by Wild Card
Eric Stahlhut
first order on upper row could also be a bavarian order of holy michael, right?p.s. oh yeah, the bavarian karl may! btw, that was an amusing thread, rick! :cat: Edited September 25, 2008 by Eric Stahlhut
Guest Rick Research
Might be, might be. If you SQUINT, the blurred angles could be Mike trampling Beelzebub-- the three "bumps" on the lower arm there.....The image is just too washed out with too many variables for me. I actually CHECKED the aD officers in 1909 and he wasn't in those sections, active or reserve. Sharper image... a DATE....had to have been alive in 1909....
