Christophe Posted December 5, 2005 Author Posted December 5, 2005 Yes, I think so. Just back from work, now... and the time to think about it ...Cheers.Ch.
Christophe Posted December 5, 2005 Author Posted December 5, 2005 So, let's go now!!!Title Hero of the GDR (German Democratic Republic)This award ("Held der DDR", in German) was established on 28 October 1975.In total, only 7 people received this award.Among these 7, were 2 foreigners. These 2 received 4 stars in total.Question :1. Who were these 2 foreigners ?2. When did they receive their award(s) ? (Mention of the year only is OK)3. Why did they receive them ? (For one of the two, the reason is obvious...) Good luck. Cheers.Ch.
Vatjan Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I think the two were1) Leonid Brezhnev, he got three, 1976-1979-1981, why? because he collected medals, I don't really know. The mongolians even founded the title of honorary freeman of the MPR, awarded only to him2)Nikolai Tichonov, he got only one in 1985 but I have no idea as to why he got it. Not yet anyway. Jan
Christophe Posted December 6, 2005 Author Posted December 6, 2005 Hi Jan,Good beginning. You are totally right about Brezhnev. All is correct... even the obvious reason!! For the 4th star : it is not Tichonov. Another try ?Cheers.Ch.
Vatjan Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 (edited) Hi ChristopheI'm afraid you're info might be out of date, now that I double checked my German source, I found that 11 people received a total of 17 stars. For the Soviet Union:Brezhnev as statedCosmonaut Valeri Bukovski 1978Cosmonaut Vladimir Kovalchonok 1978Cosmonaut Aleksander Ivanchenkov 1978Nikolai Tichonov 1985There might be spellin errors in the names, because I translated "dubious" transliterations Could this be right?Jan Edited December 6, 2005 by vatjan

Vatjan Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Hi guys,I'm very sorry, but I would be pleased if someone could take my turn. I've got a lot of work lately, and I check from time to time to read up on the latest infos, but I haven't got the time to search for an intelligent question.Sorry to have kept you waitingJan

Christophe Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 OK, let's keep the (snow)ball rolling... with an easy one :There is an historical place linked by these two dates : 22 September 1961 and 22 Juni 1990.1. Which exact place is it ? 2. In which city ?3. What is the significance of these two dates ?Good luck!!! Cheers.Ch.
Dudeman Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 OK, let's keep the (snow)ball rolling... with an easy one :There is an historical place linked by these two dates : 22 September 1961 and 22 Juni 1990.1. Which exact place is it ? 2. In which city ?3. What is the significance of these two dates ?Good luck!!! Cheers.Ch.I'm guessing something to do with the Berlin Wall, but I've usually seen the construction date of sometime in AUG 61.
Christophe Posted December 24, 2005 Author Posted December 24, 2005 Hi Dudeman,Good start! You're totally right. It is linked to the Berlin Wall. The frontier between East and West has been closed on 13 August 1961, and the Wall's construction began on the 15 August. But, there is something more specific around these two dates : 22 September 1961 and 22 Juni 1990. What ?Question 2 is already answered : Berlin.Good luck!! Ch.
Christophe Posted December 24, 2005 Author Posted December 24, 2005 So, here is the question again :There is an historical place linked by these two dates : 22 September 1961 and 22 Juni 1990.1. Which exact place is it ? Berlin Wall, but more precisely ?2. In which city ?Berlin3. What is the significance of these two dates ??Good luck!!! Any idea ?Cheers.Ch.

JFK's "Ich bin ein Berliner" and Reagan's "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" presidential speeches?
Christophe Posted December 24, 2005 Author Posted December 24, 2005 We have a winner!!! It is Check Point Charlie !!!The two dates correspond to /* The opening of Check Point Charlie as a control point, and* Its official dismantling. The dates are not those of these speeches, but as you were very close... The speeches you mentioned took place on 26 June 1963 and 12 june 1987.Dudeman, congrats!!Your turn now to post a question.Ch.
Dudeman Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Who was the recipient of the greatest number of recorded Soviet Bravery Medals and how many awardings were there?
Christophe Posted December 25, 2005 Author Posted December 25, 2005 Who was the recipient of the greatest number of recorded Soviet Bravery Medals and how many awardings were there?Hi Dudeman,Thanks for posting a question. I think I have both answers. I will first let the others play... Cheers.Ch.
Vatjan Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 I think about 4,5 million medals were awarded, but I have no clue as to who was the bravest soldier of 'em allJan
Christophe Posted December 26, 2005 Author Posted December 26, 2005 Jan,I agree with you. I have the "magic" figure of 4.569.893 medals awarded. For the bravest soldier, I have the information he has been awarded this medal 4 times!!For Dudeman, is this correct ? For all, any idea of the identity of the "bravest" ? Ch.
Christophe Posted December 27, 2005 Author Posted December 27, 2005 Dudeman,What do you think of our guesses ? Ch.
