Ferdinand Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 (edited) Slightly off topic, but I still have to smile about the way the Soviets transliterate American words. The "Klub "Neishnel Khedlainero" in Atlantik Siti" four posts above is off course the National Headliner Club in Atlantic City. Edited January 26, 2009 by Ferdinand

Christian Zulus Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 USS Pueblo? DocDear Christophe,Doc is right - it's the USS Pueblo (AGER-2), an US spy-ship, which is since 1968 in North Korea:Wikipedia answers all questions, except No. 5:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pueblo_(AGER-2)The Soviets had the secret code by John Anthony Walker http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Anthony_Walker and needed the crypt-machine, but comrade Walker was a Warrent Officer at the US-Navy, not a colonel .Doc should be the winner, because with "USS Pueblo" he answered 4 of 5 questions .Best regards Christian
Christophe Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 Ok, guys. I'm in a good mood today... Doc is the first one who identified the mysterious ship... So, Doc is the winner!!!! Here are the complete answers : 1. What is this ship ?The ship is the USS PUEBLO, which was captured by the North Koreans in 1968.2. Why is she famous ? What happened to her, and when ?She was the first U.S. Navy ship to be hi-jacked on the high seas by a foreign military force in over 150 years. USS Pueblo (AGER-2) is a Banner-class technical research ship (Navy intelligence) which was boarded and captured by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea, or short DPRK) on 23 January 1968 in what is known as the Pueblo incident or alternatively as the Pueblo crisis or Pueblo affair.North Korea stated that she strayed into their territorial waters, but the United States maintains that the vessel was in international waters at the time of the incident3. Where is she located now ?Pueblo is still held by North Korea. In October 1999, it was towed from Wonson on the east coast, around the Korean Peninsula, to Nampo on the west coast. This required moving the vessel through international waters. No attempt to recapture the Pueblo was made. USS Pueblo is one of the primary tourist attractions in Pyongyang, North Korea, having attracted over 250,000 visitors since being moved to the Taedong River. Pueblo is now anchored at the very spot where the General Sherman Incident is believed to have taken place in 1866.4. Where she is located, she is a symbol. Why ?The present location of Pueblo is in Pyongyang, so it is an attempt to project an image to tourists of the North Koreans' strength. And, moreover, as said, She was the first U.S. Navy ship to be hi-jacked on the high seas by a foreign military force in over 150 years. 5. A Colonel played a role in this story. Who is he ?Colonel Kim Joong Rok was the commander of the operation again the USS Pueblo. 41 North Korean soldiers operating under his orders captured the 83 US crew members. One has been killed during the assault.Doc, you're the winner!!! Congratulations!! Your turn, now!! Cheers.Ch.Pic : Colonel Kim Joong Rok.
