Chris Boonzaier Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 A regular long backing plate....leather backing sewn to it...
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 Actually pretty well worn which is unusual for WW2 bars.Funny thing is the unique way he mounted them. They are all single plates mounted onto the bar....
joe campbell Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 chris-that looks like a LEATHER backing!you see something new every day!is the last one a bayern piece?thanks, joe
Paul R Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 (edited) Very nice Chris A lifesaving medal group!!! Do you have the DKiG as well? This is the largest Lifesaving bar I have seen with total WW2 era medals. Most I have seen had a mixture of medals from WW1 as well! That last medal is the Bulgarian Gallantry Medal. don Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 (edited) Don't show that,I might want one. What is the third and the last medal? Thanks don Edited November 13, 2005 by don
Guest Rick Research Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 The individual tabs on a metal backing plate was a fairly common style then-- allowed for easier mounting and rearranging of awards than the "sewn up as one complete unit" type.(Cheaper too, but who's counting?)Not ONLY does he have the bar-- he has the DOCUMENTS-- which makes this probably the MOST documented, attributable Third Reich Lifesaving Medal group that I've EVER seen.
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 Not ONLY does he have the bar-- he has the DOCUMENTS-- which makes this probably the MOST documented, attributable Third Reich Lifesaving Medal group that I've EVER seen.also in the group are sport badge, EK1, DKiG, CCbt in bronze, Panzer assault bronze, wound in black and silver etc.It is a nice group. He and another guy saved a kid from drowning.
Paul R Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 (edited) Hi Don,The third medal is the Lifesaving medal I so much! The last medal is the Bulgarian Gallantry medal.WOW!!!! Documents too?! That grouping would be worth four times it's weight in gold(to me anyway!)Paul Edited November 13, 2005 by Paul Reck
Stogieman Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Hi Chris. Very interesting. I have not ever seen a leather backing material before this bar. No shortage of weird cloth ones, but leather?? Not even once.
Stijn David Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Hi CHris, Very nice to see that bar again, thanks for sharing! Iff i do remember correctly the former wearer was in the milling bussines? etc ... or am is still half sleepdrunk and completely wrong Cordial greetings,
