Guest Rick Research
Ah! First one: Oberst aD Georg Schmidt (1869--) in 1914 Major in IR 82: added HOH3X, SMK, ÖM3K and Wound Badge during the war. Last two are SLH4 and NN5. The Schaumburg and Dutch Orders with China-Steel are distinctive and the only difficulty was figuring out the combination of LDH versus SLH by classes and the same for the Dutch award. Fell nicely into place with Rolls done. Since he was the commander of IR 82, a WW1 regimental history should have a nice portrait of him, even if we don't know when he died. The second one would appear to be Oberstleutnant zD (Oberst aD, 1864-1934) Walter von Schaper who started in 2. GRzF, went to GGR5 when it was raised in 1897-- He got GSF3aX in 1914 and BMV3X in 1916. Must check BACKWARDS and see who might have had this combination and added other awards in earlier years than 1914, or been killed in 1914 with nothing from the Rolls we've worked on. But the double Tsarist RA3 and RSt3 certainly indicate a Guards regiment holder. Possible there might be other suspects but the Crown to Red Eagle 4 should narrow things down very neatly. Extremley nice Hohenzollern bar. Luckily I have the roll forthat very peculiar class. Unfortunately I cannot cull out any of the Nnatives without a wartime Court and State Handbook since most of them do not show up in the Orders Almamac. Rarity that shall not speaketh its numbers. ... And yes, sometimes I do even amaze myself. But this isn't magic-- it is the tenacious lifelong pursuit of obscure data and being the research heir (if only partly trained apprentice) of the best Imperial German researchers who ever lived. This is all thanks to them. The work of the Seymour Circle goes on.

Claudio
Hi Paul, Strange on the 2 GzF ribbon bar is that piece of backing being cut out and than sewn back.... are there any traces of ribbons' replacements??? Despite that I like the bar, but I would really check everything also with the UV-light... Ciao, Claudio

Steve K.
Abybody get anything else?? There were many bars to purchase at this year's show but most were out of my price range or of questionable content. I thought Paul got the best score with those first two bars. I was very jealous. I did get the Banderkatalog which has escaped me for some time, and it was the new edition! (thanks Paul)

Claudio
I remember to have seen the medal bar in a previous Thies' auction... how groups can be split into some many pieces... Incredible!
